After just a couple of chapters this book showed me what a wonderfl gnre fantasy can be and I'm excited. Well written and I can even smell the environments.

I'm on Chapter 9 of 38 and so far it's kinda disappointing.
I really loved the first Powder Mage Trilogy where Taniel Two-Shot and Kar-Poel quickly became my favorites because they were the most interesting characters I'd run across in quite some time. Unfortunately this series is focused on Vlora Flint, one of the least interesting characters from the original trilogy.

I never read the Powder Mage trilogy, but I decided to try this one anyway. So far I'm digging the hell out of it, and now I want to go back and read the original trilogy.

This is an awesome book. The set up is fast paced and easy to follow. I am digging the insurrection tone to the story. Can't wait to find out what happens.

Love this one even more than the OT. Read if you liked Mistborn Era 2.

Love the build up. Vlora's really grown on me but I feel she's still misguided at times. Practical, but misguided.

McClellan's got a preferred structure (half secret investigation, half soldiery), but when the characters are this well rounded, who cares?
Nice that he's waited until a third of the way in to unleash one of his Powder Mages too - and then for only two pages. Keeping his (excuse the pun) powder dry.

Much better. One of my biggest gripes with McClellan in the Powder Mage Trilogy was his characterisation. They were one dimensional as a cardboard cut-out and carbon copied. In this we have three well thought out protagonists who are as different from each other as could be, and one of them has a split personality! Excellent.
