It's kind of jarring how the story went from Rin being 6 to 16 between books. Like nothing happened in those 10 years? The guy seriously didn't date? At all? It even feels like the characters are like "ho shit 10 years have passed, but we're going to talk like nothing happened". Even the part where Rin had a relationship with the neighbor kid felt sudden and forced. It feels like a completely different series.
