i don't know anything about Amanda. It seems like her being trans is the only important thing about her. Her personality is sweet, sure, but so, so, so boring.

I just found out the author raped and physically assaulted her spouse. That is not okay. I like this book, so I will finish it, but I will not be reading any of her other books. I refuse to support a rapist.

So far, I like Grant. As for Amanda, I guess I like her. I pity her, though. It sucks that she has to be so careful just because she’s trans.

I have just started this book, and I am loving it. The writing is efficient, and the characters seem okay, although I can’t tell for sure yet. Amanda’s dad is conservative and not very accepting. He seems like an antagonist, but he probably has an interesting backstory.

i’ve been in the fattest reading slump for the last month, so i hope this book is getting me out of it!

meh - not realistic but a good story to open the discussion on the trans experience

while it has some interesting parts....I have to admit I am a little bored. I do enjoy the flashbacks to dive more in the character development but let's speed it uppppppppp

I am very quickly realizing I am very uneducated to the trans experience and this novel is definitely making me do some learning.

But what was the surgery? Is it what I think happened?

Literally just started this and I’ve been on the verge of tears since the first page. This is gonna be an emotional one.

This book has two parts: there is the overwhelmingly utopic portrayal of a teenage transexual girl and there is the brutally honest displays of unsure bullies who are just as confused and hurt as those they bully. There are deep, meaningful conversations about being your true self and there are stereotypical "manic pixie dream boy/girl" moments between characters with no depth or interesting qualities.

So let me get this: this boy is very poor, works multiple jobs trying to take care of his mother and two sisters with no additional income and he still manages to buy Sandman comics because he likes this one girl? Buying comic books is expensive and he lives in a trailer. This doesn't make sense, like most of the book. It's a utopia with absurd realistic details added to supposedly make the characters more relatable.

I'm really enjoying this book a lot. The way it's written reminds me a bit of Sarah Dessen in how gloomy and matter-of-fact it is. I never knew how badly I wanted to read LGBT+ Sarah Dessen until I picked this up lol.

Book keeps mentioning Sandman. Are we sure this isn't a super-sekrit paid advert for Neil Gaiman? JK, but omg, now I want to read that graphic novel so if it *was* a paid advert, it worked. Hahaha I love it when books mention books.
