Been listening to this book on audio thanks to Audible's great sale on audio books for their anniversary, and gotta say this is a fun one to drive around listening to.

Huh. Well I guess that answers some of my questions.

Krystal better not be dying just so Fred can discover his inner vampire or whatever.
Her pain and death shouldn't be a plot point, a catalyst to his character development. Her pain shouldn't be about his feelings.

"Did they really think I couldn't deal with a Bond-villain wannabe who happened to sport fangs?" She told Fred that only special trained agents deals with vampires and didn't say anything about her being one, and she couldn't handle them in the kitchen. Why would anyone think she could handle two vampires who abducted her?

"I'd have to make sure to kill Quinn first when this came to a head." How? She couldn't do anything in the kitchen when it was just him and one henchman, but here he also have a room full of ghouls and she's chained to an altar.
Of course we won't find out how bc Neil's plan will intervene, but it doesn't make sense that she's so sure she'll be fine on her own

It would be great if there was a way to contact the Agency and tell them that one of their agents have been kidnapped and is being held hostage, since they're probably not gonna find out for themselves.

"I must surmise that the element which kept you suppressed is this young woman right here." And all Fred would have to do is say that he didn't meet Krystal until a year after he was turned so it couldn't be her. But of course he doesn't.

Dude's fangs are extended and 'not for feeding'. And once again Krystal is in a position where she's being victimized and threatened with sexual violence.

"She had apologized, and it wasn't like she meant to do any harm." So? What if it was a human who had found her or one of the monsters she'd created? She almost killed them and they were parahumans, a normal human would definitely have died. And there's no consequences? No suspending her magic license for getting high and almost killing several people?

"She is brilliant, the best in her field." She took a drug calibrated for another species and didn't think it would work differently on herself

"She was an accomplished alchemist." So accomplished that she tests out a drug made for someone much stronger on herself and doesn't even stop to think that it might work differently. Everyone would know that. It's common sense that stuff like body mass and recent drug use are gonna affect whatever else you take.

The secret agency has existed since the US was founded, but no one knows how to contact them? They set a kid in probation but gives him no way of contacting the or other parahumans who could contact the agency? It not very efficient if the agency has to root out all trouble themselves instead out giving people the option to report when something is wrong.

As nice as it is to have Krystal answer with a punch and a quick one liner when faced with sexism it would be even nicer if she wasn't constantly being placed in those situations

Thinking about how much they own and how long they've been in the business you'd think that the dragolings would have an educated accountant within their own ranks so it wouldn't be a problem

Krystal takes a stupid bet that she has no chance of winning and loses and the Fred's has to make a bet to save her. Saw this coming from the moment Krystal challenged Morgan, but I don't get why she did.

"The word "belongings" grated against something inside me. I couldn't tell you what it was" He couldn't tell why it bothered him that Neil called Krystal a slave for his personal enjoyment either. They're objectifying and alluding to sexual assault. The idea that he doesn't understand why he's angry is ridiculous. Unless of course he sees it as someone taking his property and doesn't wanna admit he's sexist himself

"I'm only charging him with magic usage without a license." Really? He cast a spell on three people that took away their free will and then stared at one of the women as he said they were for his "enjoyment". What about looking into that? Or charging him with attempted murder of the other people there? Does it only matter that he used magic not what he did with it?

Krystals character would really be more interesting if there was more to her than 'sexy monster hunter'. For a minute there I thought she was into LARPing but apparently she thinks that sucks and is only there for the job. Does she have any hobbies or interests?

"Had to fly to Greece" You'd think that a secret organization would have agents in Europe instead of having to send an American. If they don't want to pay long distance charges for a phone call why would they pay for the flight?

The former social outcast grew up to be a kick ass blonde bombshell. And of course she is interested in the main character..
