Washington’s farewell address, 1796
I am struck with the sagacity of his warnings against political parties, and therefore polarization. Where we depart is over foreign policy, which I do not believe he could’ve anticipated a world, so enmeshed as we find ourselves in the modern era. Isolationism is not good policy in the 20th century and beyond due to attachments literally around the globe.
