Yet no one realizes that the vital
always remains unspoken: Be human, be open-minded, and be willing to learn. Nothing could be simpler than that, yet it is the hardest lesson to accept or teach. We raise our progeny with vanity and prejudice. We doom future generations and ourselves; we have destroyed the idea of simplicity.

Perhaps, some day, humanity can start afresh, a new world, a tabula rasa, a world with a mind without prior
experiences. No memories and no pain. A day when the ones with abundance do not look down at the poor and the needy, a day when we learn to care for the victims, the fallen souls of civilization and advancement, a day when the world will be pure.

Feeding those in need is probably the nicest thing the church can ever do. I consider it a small act of contrition for all their sins: the centuries of oppression, the crusades, rape and wealth gathering at any cost. Just don’t think for a moment that giving a meal to the homeless will erase your obligations. The time will come when you have to practice what you preach, and we’ll be here, watching.

When I wake, the sun is just climbing above the clouds, beginning its daily journey. A never-ending journey, one that
will continue long after humanity is extinct. For ages it has shone its light over wars and miseries, piercing through the deepest darkness, and yet never able to penetrate the human heart and fill it with its light.

Interesting ride of a book so far. Totally outside the realm of what I would normally read.

I don't like this character, but I can't stop reading his narrative. lol It's like a love/hate thing. I want to smack him, but I love his insights and observations.

Very nice writing. No idea where it's headed, but it's starting off just fine. If you go to buy this book, make sure you don't get the 2008 version. I made notes of several issues but still intended to buy it, but then I read the description that said it was an "out of print" edition (which is impossible for Kindle, and I'd remove that version) and the ISBN was provided for the newer, corrected edition.
