our universe is the way it is because otherwise we couldn't be here to observe it.

I'm not nearly smart enough for this book. I've really struggled through to get this far but I realise I often lacking basic comprehension. Not that the author isn't clear and he's clearly making this as accessible as possible. I just still can't keep up...

We live on a hunk of rock and metal that circles a humdrum star that is one of 400 billion other stars that make up the Milky
Way Galaxy which is one of billions of other galaxies which make up a universe which may be one of a very large number, perhaps
an infinite number, of other universes. That is a perspective on human life and our culture that is well worth pondering

Rather than "Don't Make Sense", I think the title should be "Some Things That Don't Make Sense, and Others That Are Just Plain Controversial".

Seems like those super smart Sheldon Coopers out there aren't as clever as they thought. Those damn galaxies aren't behaving like what we told them to.

Apparently we live in a Goldilocks universe - one that is "just right"

This book has made me humble. I always thought science had answers for almost everything. But this book made me realise that we are far from explaining even the fundamental things like difference between living and non living things, placebo effect etc. The fact that majority of the universe made of dark matter and dark energy is far from scientific explanation shows how less we know about us and our universe.

I fell asleep while reading the chapter on cold fusion. not that it's not interesting. it's just that I know all this. I've read them a billion times. also too much details are provided everywhere, too many names too. bored. :(

Anyone who's ever read a few science books knows most of these "mysteries". But this is still a good book.
I'll give it a go.

Page 38 is a guess because this ebook measures progress in percentages. It's not paginated. I am always fascinated to read stuff which is rather way beyond me. Interestingly, it seems that some of the results depicted herein are rather beyond the finest scientific minds too!

2-> Pioneer probes 10 and 11, intended in part as a test of Newton's law of gravitation, exhibited an anomaly by veering 8000 miles away from their intended trajectory each year. Three decades of investigation later, the anomaly still lacks an explanation. Considering the painful nature of investigation, I think NASA should've just sent another probe in a similar fashion with better diagnostics.

Point 1->We don't know what most of the cosmos is. Yet we know that there must be something more than we know. Universe is suspected to be so big that what we can account for makes up a mere 4% of it. The enormity of the unknown cosmos alone serves t remind us that science hasn't figured everything out yet. Astonishingly, the author admits there may be limits to what can be known.

Science! I am enjoying the progression from physics into biology and astronomy. The things (each their own chapter) flow smoothly into each other. If I didn't have to teach in the AM, I'd probably stay up longer to finish the book.
