OK. the only reason I am still reading is I love SEP. it is too weird for my tastes do far.

I'm crying over puppets? What sorcery is this?

I am having grave doubts about this book. Which is sad, because I adore SEP. We'll see...

“It would only be pity sex,” she said, in a mock confessional. “I won’t insult you like that.”
“Go ahead. Insult me.”

“Am I?” He looked vague, a matinee idol prone to memory lapses. Hannibal wandered out from the kitchen and draped himself over Theo’s shoe.
She gazed at the cat. “What’s your familiar doing here?”
“I need him while I work.”
“To help cast spells?”

I am on the 3rd disc of this audiobook and I am confused by this book. From the title and cover blurb, I was expecting a lighthearted contemporary romance but there's no romance. The hero is an A1 a**hole. He and the setting is giving me Jane Eyre gothic, but without the chemistry and the heroine lacks Jane's sense of self.

He jabbed his finger toward the cottage. “You think I did that?”
“No, no. Of course, I don’t.”
“You do think I did it.” His frown turned to a glower. “You can’t imagine how much I want to walk away right now and let you deal with this yourself.”
“F-follow your instincts.”

had to turn in back to the library...feels like "Ain't She Sweet" all over again...hopefully I'll like it better when I get the audio copy
