Only made it through the first chapter. The introduction is just rambling plant-anthropomorphising that comes from a good place, I'm sure, but is the kind of thing that probably gave people the idea that nature can somehow "just adapt" to whatever we do with the planet. The best thing I can say about the first chapter is that it had very little to do with the introduction. Will leave it at that for now.

Potato, Monsanto and mono agriculture. Ahh tale as old as time. Even though this book was written nearly 30yrs ago, we can still agree that Monsanto is evil. I actually like the way this chapter was written the most, as it feels more organized and intentional thn the frist two. The interchange between history of potatoes and the author's present exploration makes reading interesting all the way through.

Gosh damn this might be the best part of the book. It lowkey makes me wanna try marijuana and observe its effect on our minds. AND I wanna learn more about natural substances as well. 10/10 for this part.
