There is nothing I hate more than plot intrigue being accomplished by characters intentionally withholding information. The fact we the reader are privy to some vital information and a character isn't (due to plot) is irritating.
That being said, I have no clue where the remaining 70% of this book is going. Maybe I'll eat my words.
