Okay. The last chapter was AMAZING! But now I‘m afraid. It can‘t stay happy like this. There is a reason it‘s categorised under tragedy/horror. Pls my weak heart won’t be able to handle this :‘(

While I appreciate the speed with which the author is knocking out horcruxes, I think it’s disappointing that the ultimate plot of the book ended up being the exact same as the second.

I wish kids from other Houses joined in on Walpurgis night. There’s a lot of talk about how Slytherin isn’t just the evil house, but showing Dark-aligned Hufflepuff or Gryffindor would go a long way toward showing that.

The idea that it’s important for Harry to respect the free will of the wizards who want to keep their slaves makes me roll my eyes so hard. My grandma always says “Your fist ends where my nose begins,” and adopting that philosophy that would really benefit Harry, IMO.

One thing that drives me crazy about the series (most fics actually) is the author doesn’t get the nuances of names right. Especially a bummer here considering the pureblood dances make deliberate use of names as evidence of power dynamics. Specifically, McGonagall and Snape should be calling the boys by their surnames, no misters, and Lupin should use the kids’ first names.

I cannot really wrap my head around Harry not telling Connor what exactly Lily did to him. Their family dynamic is different from mine, obviously, but IME one of the most important functions of siblinghood is shit-talking your parents.

Jesus, Harry, shut the fuck up. My ex used to say this same shit (stuff like no, I must secretly hate him in my heart because he was inherently unlovable and he just manipulated me into caring about him this whole time, my feelings were all a lie, etc.) and it’s fucking annoying to be on the other end of that.

"I would have screamed like someone was using Avada Kedavra on me, that's what I would have done "
For all that Draco is often a brat in this, he really does have some of the most sensible reactions in the series

World building is really where LotW is at her best. Walpurgis alone is worth reading the series for

I think this might be my least favourite third act in the series. It was a bit of a slog even the first time I read it (I distinctly remember skimming enough that I had to scroll back at the reveal to sort out what I missed) but now, knowing what's coming, I'm highly tempted to just skip ahead to the next story

LotW clearly forgot about McGonagall being the one to give Harry Peter's wand here. I normally give some leeway when it comes to things like this in fic but, given the pace, she would have only written that scene about a week earlier. Not really long enough to forget. At least, not for me and my memory is pretty shit

And here we begin what I recall being an exhausting plot thread: Harry does something dangerous to protect someone, and Snape and Draco get mad at him for not valuing his own life.

1: I loathe Lily so much
2: Avada Kedavra is deadly from *any* distance, idiot. That's kind of the entire point.

Not sure if I'm bored by the current plot portion or if 4-ish straight days of reading is my limit, but I may have to take a break to do something else. Focus is basically non-existent and I'm getting antsy

Harry's continued insistence that Connor is compassionate and gentle is one of the most infuriating parts of this series. If I remember right, the dumbass doesn't start to get over it until the very last fucking book despite Connor *repeatedly* being a selfish, bullying shit.

I will never understand why Harry doesn't just tell Connor that Sirius was fucking well trying to kill him here. He may not have permission to explain everything, but no one can justifiably tell him he's not allowed to share his own experiences

Connor, you little moron, how has it not occurred to you that you don't have a quarter of the magical power you'd need to be a lord

Connor is an exhausting idiot, but I’m finding myself liking that aspect of him this time around—he’s stupid in a way that feels genuinely 13. “When the war ends, Dumbledore will make a speech.” It’s kind of fun considering Harry is so far in the other direction.
