What a surreal story! A post dystopian earth is the current global political nightmare gone worse.

"Only the green tubes of the makeshift pump remained at the substratum leak, where the side wall had stood." It made me go UH-OH at what I think may happen. We'll see if I'm right >.<

This is so episodic, it's taking me a while to get through it (and I keep forgetting who's who; it needs a character list & probably a glossary). But still entertainingly bonkers.

Reads like a YA novel. Some interesting ideas, some scary. Too much Spanish for my taste though. I don't think this book uses the words boy or girl even once—it's always chico or chica...

It's gotten good! I'm hooked, and I'm starting to love the sense of immersion in a sensory-overloaded version of the Type-A freshman experience...

I dunno about this book... it draws a lot from Ender's Game without having an engaging plot, and the world-building jargon is really juvenile and off-putting. It feels like the biologist author has Something To Say, I'm just not sure what it is yet.

Really digging the subtle inclusion of same sex relationships between characters. Maybe in 100 years time it will be an acceptable and commonplace lifestyle as Joan portrays it.

Some pretty heavy world building to start out with, but pushing through I have gotten into the swing of things. The science and technology is exceptional. And it's getting really interesting!

This book has so much going on. Not my favorite of Slonczewski's books so far. By far.
