Status Updates From The Golden Age Hawkman Arch...

Tolle Artwork von Moldoff, aber die beiden letzten Stories aus Arabien waren sehr dünn.
Interessant, wie Abenteuer=Unterhaltung 1940 im Comic=Magazin, einem noch neuen Format, aussah.

Den frühen HAWKMAN-Abenteuern von 1940 ist der Einfluss der Pulps noch deutlich anzumerken.
Ab FLASH COMICS #4 übernimmt Shledon "Shelly" Moldoff die Artwork, dessen Zeichenstil sich stark an Alex Raymond orientiert. Ein schöner Qualitätssprung nach vorne.

H ist for Hawk (=Man)!
Die Geburt des reinkarnierten Falkenmannes im Januar 1940 in FLASH COMIC #1 hat die erzählerische Wucht des Gilgamesch Epos:

"Then die, Khufu! And after you - Shiera!"
The dying prophecy!
"I die - but shall live again - as shall you, Hath-Set. And then I shall be the Victor."

Carter is really vicious. He takes Sheikh Abdullah's dagger from his belt and stabs him between panels. Then we get silliness of Carter flying in a box and using a circular saw in a mill to free himself. This is also left to your imagination between the panels. Issue #11 finally gives us a Siegel Superman-style story of corrupt real estate salesmen.

The writing is surprisingly good for its time. Carter's arm looks too long on page 9, but Neville's artwork is par for the time until he is replaced with the excellent Sheldon Moldoff with the fourth story.
