Now that I’m mostly out of my slump I have become very impressed by this book. I think I find large scale battles mostly uninteresting and a slog. Now I don’t know why I would pick epic fantasy as a genre if I don’t like large scale battles but I think for me the worldbuilding wins out, and boy is this book delivering on that front for me. That and the character moments are top of their class.

Erikson so beautifully captures the guilt daughters face when recognizing in adulthood the personal identity their mothers sacrificed to preserve theirs.
