reading modernist authors often begins as a struggle for me, that I must unravel like I'm watching a canvas actively being painted in front of me, only realizing later what I've always been looking at

کتاب امروز به دستم رسید و احتمالا هر چقدر هم فشرده بخونم نمیرسم برای جلسه کتابخوانی سوم آبان کامل بخونمش.اما امیدوارم خجالت رو کنار بذارم و توی اون جلسه شرکت کنم.

Encerrada a primeira parte.

currently 30 pages in, i’m spending like 10 min on each page BUT the writing. the characterisation is delectable. it is fantastic. it’s been a while since i have read a book this slowly and with this many breaks and ENJOYED it ugh! i love her. but i know anything can change in literally like 12% in or smth but god ! it’s hard to follow yes fors sure but no other writing hits this deep and is so painfully funny.

slowly but surely the reading list will not be the end of me

I know Woolf admired Proust's writings, and you can tell she is very influenced by him in this book.

Kinda boring right now

I decided to start over 1/3 of the way in. I needed to reread it in a more meditative mindset to appreciate it and I think it was worth it!

I get it now

Ok so I’m reallllllly liking this one so far. I like how everything that has taken place has only been in one day up to this point so the chapters are jumping from different peoples perspectives. Very cool to learn the inter-workings of these characters and how they view themselves and each other. So far worse character is for sure the dad and wtf he’s so pick me I’m a baby attitude is crazzzzy

Writing is beautiful but I do unfortunately want to beat Mr ramsay into a pulp

My new favorite book, Absolutely outstanding.

What am I reading actually… pg 161 “For the mass loomed before her; it protruded; she felt it pressing on her eyeballs. Then, as if some juice necessary for the lubrication of her faculties were spontaneously squirted, she began precariously dipping among the blues and umbers, moving her brush hither and thither… so that her hand quivered with life…”

I can already tell this will be a favorite. Amazing.

There’s not much plot going on in this novel. It’s a novel about tone. It reads with a tone of an elegy acting as the glue. It’s a mournful lament for all that is lost as we approach death. Mrs. Ramsey is a character that can be both in and out of time. At the dinner party, she is “in” time, almost courting loss. When she plunges into time and mortality, it is a way of martyring herself. A lot going on here
