Just as I began to get used to the stream of consciousness and flow of the writing, part I ends. The start of part II begins in much the same way; hard to follow and concentrated.
With “time passing”, suddenly everyone is dying! How morose! The point of view changes to the old maids/housekeepers, which is interesting.
Lily is now the focus of part III?

Allí la tenía delante, la vida. (...)

“What is the meaning of life? That was all - a simple question; one that tended to close in on one with years. The great revelation had never come. The great revelation perhaps never did come. Instead there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark, here was one.”

Ngl I’m really not enjoying this book even though I wanted to. I get that the writing is hyperbolic but I don’t understand any of the characters or the narrative arc. Pausing this read for now.

i have a love hate relationship with virginia woolf because of uni. you can't expect me to read her books in less than a week with how many other readings i have to do. especially considering that she's not easy to read with 17+ perspectives that are not clearly marked, along with stream of consciousness narration... LET ME TAKE MY TIME

i am aware that it’s different when virginia woolf writes terribly long sentences that go on for half a page because she’s a brilliant writer and she does it blissfully, but it’s doing no good for me to read this because it’s convincing me that it’s ok to do so and that i can and should write like this since it comes naturally to me. i shouldn’t though, it’s tedious to read if you can’t master it

I couldn't finish this book, it jolts my mind, like I am riding down a railroad track in a small roller coaster car, that has no suspension. Other reactions: my mind jerks, and moves in a staccato-type fashion, when trying to read the author's words.
I'm marking it as "finished" simply to move it off of my list.

"How could any Lord have made this world? She asked. With her mind she had just seized the fact that there is no reason, order, justice: but suffering, death, the poor. There was no treachery too base for the world to commit, she knew that. No happiness lasted, she knew that."
