Amelie Way to go, CC!! What were YOUR top reads from the year?

message 6: by CC (new)

CC @Amelie:
Thank you!!

City Between (OF COURSE ^_^), with 3 Between Floors, 5 Between Homes, and 8 Between Decisions as my Favorites from the series. Between Family was fantastic as well and I'm thrilled to have caught this truly original and epic 10 book series at the last year of its installment. <3

Moonscript by HSJ Williams. Fairest Son by HSJ Williams.

Tara Grayce's Stolen Midsummer Bride and Abbie Emmons' Tessa & Weston: The Best Christmas Ever were two of the coziest, sweetest short reads I've ever encountered.

During December, I read four books and three of them surprised me with how wonderful they are. I'd probably rank them as:

1. Dreams Lie Beneath by Rebecca Ross
IT'S PERFECTION. I have lit. nothing to pick about this book. It's atmospheric, mesmerizing, glorious in its characterizations, and still balancing out the plot. The prose is gripping yet beautiful. And I think Clem + Phelan is equal to Pet + JinYeong in terms of how spicy they are together/to one another <3 ;) Ross also includes some of my fav. tropes (Enemies-to-lovers, Hidden identities, There's only one bed, Dagger to the throat), and court intrigue. But in all the best ways and cleverly and tastefully executed. (Plus. Considering it's general market YA. Gotta be grateful for the clean content.) I'm just so grateful that I got the signed edition because Ross is now my autobuy author. ^.^

2. Year of the Reaper: Lucier's take on historical fantasy (the setting and the plague depicted is very Middle Ages) is fantastic. Cas fulfilled everything I wanted for a tortured hero and reminded me of ERRANCE. So yeah. I'm very happy it fulfilled my expectations and then some.
(I'm also kind of biased as well since Cas and Cassian and Cassius and any similar form is one of my favorite names ever. I know it sounds shallow of me but I can't help it O.o)

3. Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim: This probably would have had changed places with Year of the Reaper if I had more Takaan. I shall just link HSJ Williams' review for it (and read my comment at the bottom :) because it's most of what I want to say as well. xD I still need to write a proper review.

CC I forgot to add that Williams' writing and storytelling in her books are amazing, especially considering they're debuts. :) I think you've read those already...? Her works remind me a lot of Anne Elisabeth Stengl's Tales of Goldstone Wood (the latter books being my favorites) and I love it so much.

Overall: Considering the fact that I read most of these in the second half of 2021, I'm very happy with the progress I was able to make. It's my first year of reading in which I've read so many wonderful and delightful books and found so many new to me favorite-autobuy authors <3.

Ahh, thank you for the recs! I shall definitely have to look into those!

I did read Moonscript this year as well, and it was gorgeous. I am so eager for Collusion, and I will definitely have to read Fairest Son! Tales of Goldstone Wood has also been recommended to me numerous times, so I will need to look into those for sure!
