The City Between #4

Between Frames

Rate this book
Two fae is company, but a company of fae is trouble.

Which is exactly what we’ve got. Trouble, I mean. Well, and fae. Lots of fae.

Something or someone is stalking and killing high-level fae around Hobart—tearing out hearts and leaving a trail of bloody bodies behind. Fae don’t like it when they’re the ones getting killed, so of course they came to hire my owners.

Owners, you ask?

Hi. I’m Pet. No, that’s not my name. I am a pet.

My owners? They’re fae. Well, two fae and one stroppy vampire.

Welcome to the world Between.

W.R. Gingell is a Tasmanian author of urban fantasy, fairy-tale retellings, and madcap science fiction who doesn’t seem to be able to write a book without a body suddenly turning up. She solemnly swears that all such bodies are strictly fictional in nature.

W.R. spends her time reading, drinking a truly ridiculous amount of tea, and slouching in front of the fire to write. Like Peter Pan, she never really grew up, and is still occasionally to be found climbing trees.

This is fourth in a UF series and thus builds character and story arcs over multiple books. I highly recommend reading these in order.

The previous book, Between Floors, had me a little worried as the quality dropped quite a bit from the others. This book was beyond reassuring as all the things are back and the pace kept me enthralled from beginning to end. All the great things you expect from the series are there. Pet continues to be intrepid and her psychos continue to be unpredictably helpful. A new element is introduced as folks from the Behind come with importunate demands of Zero to help find a killer and the guys don't want Pet involved, for obvious reasons. She still involves herself through their negligence and occasional assistance and ends up being very helpful, as she does.

So I loved all of that but I loved even more developments in the end. Some reviewers are calling it a cliffhanger, but it isn't. All the action in the book resolves satisfactorily with all the right threads tied up. But there's a relationship/story arc development in the end that was a bold move by the author that I was deeply gratified to see play out. Pressure has been building over the fae treatment of humans and that comes to a head. So yeah, I can't wait to move to the next book. But not because of manipulation or unresolved story, but because the characters' growth arcs are moving in very interesting directions.

Anyway, this is a solid five stars given that you're probably as interested as I am if you've made it this far into the series. I can't wait to see what happens next.

A note about Chaste: Still no sex. Still not a romance. Extremely well-done because removing those elements leaves lots of room for deep relationship development on an emotional level and that's what makes those story beats so interesting/powerful. I'm still marking it "chaste" but with the qualifier that there's no romance, at all.

I HAVE READ THIS BOOK. AND IT IS MAGNIFICENT.
Yes, this book released today. Yes, I finished it today. What else are road trips for?
Okay, so anyone who's read my reviews for WR Gingell's other books knows that I absolutely adore all of her books. She writes with a magic pen. Or maybe she's a book siren and enchants her books to make me love them. Regardless, this one was no different which is great because I've been counting the days for this one.

PROS:
-Character development!!!- Stuff is HAPPENING guys! MAJOR STUFF. Maybe I'll geek out under a spoiler tag at the end of this thing. And I'm tired so it'll probably be major rambling.
-More relationship development!!-- This too, shall go under the spoiler tag.
-More mystery!-- So. Much. Hinting. I swear, if I die, it'll be from not knowing enough about these characters fast enough. And I gotta wait til the end of the year for the next one. My death shall be brutal. Alas, it is inevitable.
-We understand the vampire a LOT more (HALLELUJAH!!!)

CONS:
At this point, putting a cons section in reviews of WR Gingell's books is really more a formality than anything else. I mean, it can't be a PROS/CONS review without cons. But there are none. So yeah.

**SPOILERS BELOW: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK**
(I'm reviewing this on my kindle and I don't remember how to do the spoiler tag. Sorry. I'll hide the entire review)

Okay. Pet goes through a lot in this book and.learns.a.lot about her owners and herself. At the end it.comes to a point where Zero says point blank that he's not going to help humans. Right after he neglected to help a human and he died. The human dies, not Zero. Which throws Pet for a loop and she decides that she can't obey the psychos and still maintain her humanity. Her empathy for other humans. So she leaves. Which, it's a heartbreaking scene and kudos to the author for that, but it needed to be done so 👏👏
JinYeong also gets some.development, though it's not near as blatant. I think we get to see a bit more of his humanity. Or what's left of it, seeing as he's a vampire.
Relationship development: So in my review of the previous book? I mentioned that Pet and JinYeong seemed to be getting along better? Still going. They still irritate each other, but it seems kind of endearing. And maybe I'm just weird, but I sense a romance in the future.
CAMEO-- I'm 99% sure that there's a cameo of Marazul from the short story All the Different Shades of Blue.
I say all this very calmly, but you can bet I was super hyped earlier when I was actually reading this.

SPOILERS ENDED:

So maybe I'll come back to this after I come back from camp and elaborate on Morgana and Daniel and the detective and everything else, but we'll see how it goes.
Another flamin' fantastic installment in the marvelous City Between series!

Post - finale reread: I'm hoisting the rating on this one up a star because I appreciated it SO MUCH MORE this time around.

FRAMES may not boast quite the same level of tight plotting and emotional punch of FLOORS, but it is a lovely slow burn of a story. This is really the first book where Pet starts putting into practise the things she's picked up from her psychos, playing their own games of secrets and misdirection against them, because she wants to protect her fellow humans. It's just a taste of what's to come for the character, and sets off an epic tussle between her and Zero, the icy fae lord who may be hiding a scarred heart of gold beneath his foreboding exterior but doesn't let it stop him being all dictatorial and commanding in ways that Pet is finding it increasingly difficult to live with.

This instalment contains some of the most overt and elegant thematic material of the series, as Pet struggles with how to assert her own worth and dignity before the powerful fae who presume their own superiority. Beyond that, it's a really incredible study of two characters who are both drawing together and pulling apart: for the first time in the series, Pet is basking in the approval and affection of her three psychopathic housemates - but she's also increasingly risking their disfavour. This kind of push-pull is really tricky to write, yet I've rarely seen it done so ably. For all the sweet, warm moments that we finally get to see our protagonist safe and cared for, there's a constant ominous simmer as she puts that security and affection increasingly at risk. I think the first time I read the book I had no conception that it would actually Go There, and so missed all the foreshadowing.

The other thing that improves in this book is one's understanding of what's actually going on in the overarching series plot: once again there are scenes that blatantly foreshadow future revelations in ways I can't believe I didn't pick up on! This is definitely a story that reveals all sorts of mysteries on a second read, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the process.

--

Finally - she referred to biscuits as "bikkies" like a REAL Aussie would.

And after that ENDING, I can't WAIT for the next installment!

“I was a good Pet,” I said smugly. “Stayed exactly where you told me to stay, didn’t I, Zero? I can’t help it if you lot left me with a murderer again."

Loving a sassy, sassy Pet.

Still love thinking of her as a cat- she ~might~ listen to her owners....but..probably not.

So, in this book the Psychos are trying their best to keep Pet's nose out of their latest investigation-mostly due to the fact that it has to do with high powered fae, and connections to the Family. But curiosity can kill the cat, and Pet can't help but show the Behindkind that she has a lot more to offer than they think.

Using her wits, relying on new friends, and utilizing her understanding of Between and Behind-Pet may just crack the investigation wide open.

Also, that ending though! Glad the next book is already out when I'm reading this so I don't get stuck on a cliffhanger!

Between Frames by W.R. Gingell, is the fourth novel in the City Between series. Once again I devoured the audiobook narrated by Zehra Jane Naqvi.

Because of the world, character relationship dynamics and growth this series like most urban fantasy is best listened to in the order of its release.

Something is killing high fae, and naturally they want the Psychos to do something about it. Pet isn’t supposed to get involved, but she is clever and sees things, hears things and just can’t help but attract things!

Humans aren’t thought much of by the fae, and it really was a rude awaken to enter a high fae’s home. Poor Pet.

While the case was exciting, we also saw development in the overall arc and I felt like we got some answers and saw some threads close. The character growth in Pet was evident. I was so proud of her. The ending about blew my mind and will definitely cause a shift in directions.

Intense action, tension with her roommates mixed with humor and more before Pet is forced to take a stand. I actually want to listen to it all again!

There are novellas before and after Between Frames in this series. Usually I wait until after I’ve listened to all the books in the series before I read them. Sometimes the author puts them all out on one audio. But I confess I am so tempted to read them now!

Fans of snark, mystery, and deliciously addictive urban fantasy should grab the City Between series on audio. Zehra Jane Naqvi beautifully captures not only Pet but her roommates too. She adds another layer of enjoyment to an already brilliant storyline. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

the biggest character arc of this series is me going from 'meh it's fine' to 'why am i crying' in the span of four books, tbh

my Thoughts:
• the titles of each book are just... so good.
• there were scenes in this that were genuinely spooky and i thought they were great
• we've got some ~foreshadowing~ that has me very intrigued
• found family development!!
• i said, out loud, alone in my room, "well it's about time y'all showed up" during the climactic scene and made myself laugh (the scene itself was epic, btw, i loved it)
• bless Gingell for putting recaps of the previous books throughout the story in ways that felt totally natural but still helped me remember what the heck was going on
• Zero being a cuddly drunk is maybe my favorite thing of the whole series so far (he's not actually drunk, just drugged by an enemy, lol)
• we love to see Pet standing up for herself yes
• ummmm that ending though?? what a rollercoaster wow

4.5 stars from me!
((content warning on this series for pretty gruesome murder scenes))

re-read 2023:

I burned through this book in a day but haven't had time to write a review until now!

Loved it, as always, and can hardly wait for book 5.

Pet is maturing as a character--I was so proud of her at the end! She is not always a dependable narrator--I get the sense that she tells many but not all of her thoughts and emotions, and we definitely don't know much about her past. She's not telling. For reasons we readers can speculate on all we like.

The dialogue subtext, I love. Pet's various connections with amazing characters keep us coming back for more. I am more and more curious about Morgana, always love Tuatu, and loved the quick glimpse of Marazul (very curious how his short story will fit into this series!). And then there is the Troika (aka Psychos). JinYeong is fascinating, scary, and becoming more appealing with each book, and Athelas is mysterious and strangely sympathetic, and Zero--I love him, but what is going on with him? Talk about enigmatic! I love them all, but Zero fascinates me most. I get the sense that so much is going on inside . . .

I could keep fan-girling, but I'll wrap it up. :-D Another favorite book!!

5 stars // read June 2021

Another wild ride!

-Yay for obscure mythological creatures! I'd never heard of a certain creature before and the Wikipedia page about it actually mentions this book. :)

-For some reason the creepiness got to me more in this book? Idk, maybe it was listening to this at midnight in the dark and hearing Morgana say, "everyone was asleep, and then the door to my room opened..."

-I'm so proud of Pet. I really admire characters (and real people too, for that matter) who stand for their convictions despite the consequences. Spending time with Behindkind has rubbed off on her, but we also see her compassion too.

-short review this time, but I really do love this series. I'm getting more invested in this world and characters than I have with other series for a while, I'll probably draw fanart at some point :)

Content:
-Swearing: None/Mild- a rude gesture is mentioned
-Sensuality: None/Mild- a kiss
-Violence: Medium- people are being killed by having their hearts torn out of their chests.
-Other: someone is described as being the Fae version of drunk; a girl mentions that she never has periods

A shift has definitely happened plot and character wise, though Pet is as mouthy and sassy as ever which I love her for even though I’m not entirely sure how she’s escaped from being gutted by all these supernaturals due to said sassiness, lol.

I got super frustrated with Zero and Athelas because yeah they’re always evasive but what’s the deal now? Either that or Pet’s just maturing and seeing them in a new light so I am too, but JinYeong is definitely head and shoulders above the fae right now, even though I still have no idea what he’s saying most of the time, lol. I really want to learn more about Daniel and Morgana though and with the way things ended I’m super hopeful my wish will be granted!

I feel so bad for Pet though with how the book ended; on the one hand I’m happy she’s finally standing up for herself, but on the other I feel for her in how sad and lonely she is; I know how that feels and it sucks but sometimes it just has to be done and I hope things will eventually, somehow work out favorably for all involved. Super happy JinYeong’s seemingly still in her corner though, one more point for the vampire!

I’m eager and curious to see how things continue to unfold, though I really wish I could read these closer together because the real life time gaps in between novels is a pain, lol.

Pet and her psychos are back. Zero and his crew are investigating a series of murders where a fae rips out the heart of another fae.

“Well,” I said, allowing the indignation to creep into my voice, “how come you’re so flamin’ suspicious, then?”
“Experience,” Zero said, unperturbed.

Zero is the leader, tough and distant. Pet knows that he’s the biggest and baddest of the crew, so he’s the go to when danger comes.

A step behind him was Athelas, fae steward and tea drinker. If Zero’s roar could shake you to your bones with fear, Athelas could seep a chill into your bones with the softness of his voice.

Athelas is softer but not necessarily kinder. He’s got a habit of dropping enough information to keep Pet interested, for his own interests obviously.

“You’re getting in the way of my view,” I said sourly.
His Korean edged with Between, JinYeong said, very clearly, “I am the view.”

JinYeong is the vampire who Pet (and Athelas) love to irritate. He speaks Korean even though he knows English, but Pet is better at understanding him since he is letting the Between translate when he feels like it. And Pet is getting better at Listening.

Pet can seem a little ignorant - she lived alone squatting at her house from 13 to 17 with no education and her dialogue is loaded with slang. But Pet is clever and kind. She has a heart for people who are in trouble.

“Nah, this dead bloke was walking around, buying smokes.”
“He what?”
“He was at the cigarette counter, buying cigarettes. His name’s Cameron Michaels, according to his ID.”
“That makes absolutely no sense, Pet.”
“You’re telling me! What kind of Behindkind smokes cigarettes? I didn’t think their lungs were even the same as ours. I know their blood’s not.”
“Talking with you is a rollercoaster, you know that?”

Pet trusts in her owners integrity, especially Zero, so she’s really disappointed with him by the end of this one. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 5.

There’s no romance in this series. But I’m really starting to ship Pet and JinYeoung. They love to aggravate each other and it reminds me of a boy tugging on the pigtail of the girl he likes more than actual dislike. She’s learning Korean simply to spite him.

Mwoh?”
“Well, he scared off the Sandman last time,” I pointed out. “Me and Daniel had to fight flaming hard to get away, but JinYeong just sorta snarled at him and he left.”
Ne,” said JinYeong, his poise returning to him. He sat back with his biscuit and coffee, almost impossibly smug, and said to the other two, “I am the best choice.”
“I am at a loss for words,” said Athelas. “Our pet, choosing JinYeong’s company first!”
“Yes,” Zero said, still frowning. “Very interesting.”
Athelas sipped his tea. “Insulting, I would have said.”
“See,” I said to JinYeong. “They don’t like you, either.” JinYeong shrugged, but his mouth was still smug.

There is far more development with JinYeoung than with Zero - who is distant and brooding. Athelas is more like an uncle figure - even though Pet likes Athelas, she doesn’t trust him after the events of the last book. But I’m perfectly content to see where the story goes without rushing a romance.

This series is best read in order, but the author does try to help you out if you start out of order.

If you’re looking for a unique urban fantasy - this is a really good one. Each book has its own investigation and builds on the previous one.

Stars: 5 out of 5.

Pet continues to accumulate strays as friends. This time it's Morgana and her weird house full of invisible children and now werewolves. Pet is also determined to get involved in investigations whether her psychos want it or not, and this time they expressly don't want her involved. But she turns out to be rather helpful in the end.

We also get to the meat of the conflict between her and the psychos when it comes to the treatment of humans. Pet thinks that Zero should help humans who ask for his help, because he has the ability and power to do so, and Zero... think that he only needs to protect Pet because they have a contract.

So the ending of this book is a logical result of this conflict, and I am really proud of Pet for sticking to her guns and making the decision she made. This shows that there are certain lines she isn't willing to cross even if that means jeopardizing her safety and losing her home. It will be interesting to see where this series goes from here and how this issue is resolved in the end.

I also would like to know more about who Pet's parents really were, because it seems like they knew more about Between and Behind than anyone suspected.

I get myself into so much trouble...

I discovered "The City Between" books quite recently, and absolutely devoured the first 3 books in only a matter of days. That was in early May, and I nearly died waiting for book 4 to come out.

Book 5 doesn't come out until late 2019. Guys, I'm honestly not sure I can make it that long!

"Between Frames" is another excellent addition to the "City Between" series. One thing I love about this series is that it's a concept that could get out-of-control and devolve into an eye-rolling caricature of itself, but W.R. Gingell is such a gifted writer and keeps everything in control and fresh. There is not a single thing in any of the books that I dislike, which is highly unusual - I've only read a handful of books in my life that I've never had at least one problem with, and I'm quite happy to add this series to that list.

There is a distinct shift in tone in "Between Frames." It feels like things are starting to come to a head with Pet and her 3 psychos, and I think "explosive" is a good term for this book. I'm trying to stay spoiler free, here, but I just want to babble on and on about this book and I'm having a lot of trouble not doing so. Eeek!

Whereas the previous 3 books felt like there was a single storyline thread involved in each one, this one almost had 2 or 3 going on. Everything manages to tie together quite nicely, but we got some HUGE revelations in this book, and I am SHOOK. There have been very tiny, subtle hints that things were moving in the direction this book took, but I still found myself holding my breath, hoping... Well, let's put it this way: it was a direction the story needed to go, but I was kinda hoping it wouldn't. Not in a bad way, because I disagree, just... In a hard way. In a yank-my-heart-out-of-my-chest-and-stomp-on-it kinda way. (No puns intended, considering book subject matter.)

I legit almost cried at the end. As much as I love Zero and Athelas, despite their foibles and creepiness, JinYeong has quickly become my favorite of the three psychos, and what he did at the end of this book firmly cemented him permanently in place as my favorite, for sure. And my favorite vampire ever (not that I'm typically a huge fan of vampires, but JinYeong is definitely in a class all his own!)!

It also feels, in a way, that Pet really came into her own in this story. She made some really hard decisions, and I am SO very proud of her. I still want to wrap her in bubble wrap and keep her safe, but I'm pretty sure that's impossible. As Pet said (to multiple characters), trouble just keeps finding her. She doesn't go looking, it just finds her.

And can I adopt Tuatu? Because I really want to. He's so adorable!

I get the feeling that wasn't a very intelligible review, but honestly, that's how I feel inside. All jumbled up and happy and sad and desperate for more of this story and these characters. W.R. Gingell has something very beautiful, unique, and addicting here, and I am so, so very grateful she's writing these stories - and that I discovered them.

On tenterhooks until book 5! (In the meanwhile, I'm going to go re-read the series again. And again. And again...)

I read this book in nearly one sitting. I've been aching to read this book since finishing the last book. And I wasn't disappointed! This book is just as crazy, chock-full with twists and turns, and shocking in its conclusion as the past books. I couldn't believe that end! How am I possibly going to wait until the next book releases!!!!!

If you haven't picked up this series yet, what are you waiting for? If you like clean fantasy, twisting plots, and snarky protagonists, you'll love this series!

Oh, things are picking up! We get insight as to what the psychos' deals are and it enlightens so many little elements in the previous books, and it all gets topped up not only with Pet learning the ropes probably much faster than any of the psychos expected her to learn (never underestimate humans, methinks), but that ending? Very satisfying, because as much as I like the dynamic between Pet and the psychos, I feel like everyone's development is moving in the right direction.

(You know, I was planning on reading the first 5 books and the rest later, but I'm starting to wonder if that will even be possible.)

Update: Just realized five is out! Who needs sleep?

Exceptional story! I've have completely fallen, so hard, with the rest of 'The City Between' fans, and I don't even know what to do with myself while waiting for book 5. Like, I became so ABSORBED, I don't even want to read another book right now for fear my connection with the characters will break.

And, I'm totally breaking my no spoiler review rule 'of thumb' because I want the author to know exactly what I want to happen. If what I want isn't what author plans, she can simply re-write her outline. :D Right? LOL! *Just kidding*

I love vampire 'what's-his-name'. (I know how to read it, and I know what I call him, but I have no idea if I'm saying it right or how to spell it at the moment.) I'll call him J. I never thought I would say this, but I'm so shipping J. and Pet right now. Like hard! I used to be all over Zero, but nope. Not anymore.

And Pet... Wow, she's grown up, hasn't she? I loved seeing this growth in book four, and even more, I loved her grit at the end of the book. I was a mess of emotions: pride, sadness, then shock, overjoy, and a--dang, give me the next book at the end, respectively.

My only concern and my spoiler... WHO the HECK is wheel-chair dude with gorgeous eyes that Pet was practically drooling over? *Crosses arms and turns up nose* It was such random insert, I know he was there for a reason, and I don't like it. Not one bit. Gojo! (That's get lost in Korean. Something like that. ;) )

LOL! I'm in some regard teasing a lot because I'm all hyped up tonight, but it was an incredible read, and the most fun I've had in reading in a while.

Random thoughts:

• The Troika is the perfect moniker for my favorite team of psychos.
• Pet hugs Athelas!
• Daniel is becoming steadily more endearing in this book, showing more protective-big-brother tendencies. And Morgana is sweet and innocent, yet displays a type of quiet, admirable fire.
• More backstory! I’m going to cry for Athelas and Zero now.
• Pet! Bravo! I am so proud of this girl, sticking to her convictions even though her family isn’t honoring them.

Everything about this series is brilliant. I love how paradoxical and complex these characters are, somehow staying perfectly in character and yet progressing along their character arcs believably. Somehow, I love them despite their many flaws, and I so want to read more about them. The plot is confusing and weird but complex and brilliant, and I am positive that the numerous and forthcoming reveals will weave together and resolve brilliantly. Throughout the books are woven subtle but powerful themes of interaction/relationships, humanity, and love, and the worldbuilding is wildly creative. (And, after a reread, I’m finding that the foreshadowing is absolutely excellent.)

I love this series.

Content: Violence and gore. Mention of someone flipping the bird. A lyncanthrope boy escapes into a girl’s room and shifts back into human form naked (although he makes sure he’s covered, and it’s not a sexual encounter in the least). Morgana mentions her lack of a menstrual cycle. A kiss. Someone says that he’s the Behindkind version of drunk.

Quiet now ..please be quiet!!! Settle down children it's story time, so please gather around.

Well done... that's right, now move a little bit closer because we are about to start the 4th book in the "City Between" Series called: "Between Frames by WR Gingell"
Between Frames by W R Gingell

Alright here we go, little ones:

Once upon a time there was a Pet who was owned by.......sorry.. yes, Jimmy what did you just ask??... what is a Pet?
Well, to be honest it is just a PC term for slavery, that in this case is wrapped in an alluring cover of a delightful story, to disguise villainous intentions.

Anyway where was I ....was owned by two Fey and a Vampire.. Yes, Sally.. what are Fey? Well, they are what we know as Fairy's ...no, Sally ...despite what your Father says you don't have two Fairy's living down the road from your house. And No! they are not going to try kidnap you now, to turn you into a Pet. In fact I think I need to have a word with your Father after class.
Sigh let's try this again ...Once upon a time there was a Pet......Well guess what, the rest is up to you.. as it should be!! ..I can't spoon feed you guys all the time!

5 Stars. All. Of. Them.
Alright, I am completely, 100% invested in these characters and this series. Every single one is better than the one before. I have already stated in previous reviews why I am enjoying this series and they haven't changed: phenomenal world building, real relatable characters you can easily attach to, etc. I've only grown even more fond with each book I've read. Book five can't come soon enough.

As a side note: The two novellas are out of order. Both should come after book 4, probably even the 5th or 6th too (We'll see where the definitely fall after the release of the next full length in the series)

Me rereading this was Tuatu Appreciation Week.

Seriously, what a bloke. We all need friends like Tuatu (and like Morgana and like Daniel: dolls, both of them).

This one isn’t as epic as Between Floors, but it’s just as well-plotted and satisfying and has good monsters. Also Pet learning and growing in wonderful ways.

I am so happy with how this book addresses that…situation. Like, how it deals with Pet’s relationship with Zero specifically, especially considering how much she likes him. I was going to say “unaccountably,” but it makes perfect sense that Pet has this attachment to someone who makes her feel safe…which just makes everything about it better?

I just…love the fun and the characters and the creative chaos of Behind and Between and the take on fae tropes, but I love the way the series handles its themes possibly even better. And I do not often say that, because while I appreciate good themes, I love good stories.

Which, y’know. This was both. Possibly my second favorite book next to Between Floors? We will see as this reread progresses.

If you have been a fan of this series, you better buckle in. So much happens in this story, not just in terms of Pet's adventures but also in character growth and overall world development. And yet there is obviously much more to come.

All of our favorite characters are back and making an appearance. All of our fan theories are tested. All of our ships are... well, I'll just let you read it for yourself ;). And the ending? I can't remember the last time I have been so proud of a character. My emotions ran high and I am honestly so pumped for everyone else to read it.

So, if you haven't started the series yet, why not?!

I have provided an honest review after receiving an eARC from the author.

This series continues to entertain. I will say that a lot of the books end abruptly in cliffhangers, which I'm generally not a fan of and this one is the worst offender so far. Thankfully, it's done in the right way where the book feels complete but simply opens up into the next story before ending (rather than not reaching its proper conclusion and you have to read the next book to get the end of the climax of your book).

And luckily, the books are all out so I can immediately go buy the next one. Take my money!

Another fab offering of the City Between series. 4 stars because I didn't love it as much as Between Floors. Was I disappointed? No. Did it make me feel the series was losing momentum? Also, no. Did it make me want to read Bk 5 less? 100%, NO! Love, LOVE this series. Humour, awesome characters, epic character development and packed full of intrigue. MUST READ.
