Anxiety that what we write might not be any good, and guilt about the time we need to write (and dream and imagine and research).

My tip would be to give yourself permission to be a writer. Set aside guilt-free time to write. When I turned 40, I discussed my writing ambitions with my close family and agreed that Thursdays would be set apart for creative writing. It was a day where I gave myself permission to be a writer, leaving the other 6 days for all the usual pressures of life. That's when Snail Tales from the Crook was born...

Another tip would be to just start. As you begin writing, the creative juices flow. Don't sit there agonising and worrying that what you might write won't be any good. Far better to get something down and later revise it than never write.

My final tip for now would be to write for a receptive (even if imaginary) audience. Don't think about the critics of this world. They will criticise even the most amazing works. Think about the joy you will give even just one reader, and write for them.(less)

I really enjoyed the modern setting of this, with reference to the war in Ukraine, the rise of AI at work etc. Ultimately, it's a soft romance story, but with a highly likeable main character. You can pretty much see where this story is going and it ...more

This was a good book, by a great man. I can't say I ENJOYED it, as the topic was at times harrowing (particularly abuse of women), but it was richly thought provoking.

Great handling of a difficult topic, whether you have religious beliefs or not.
