Catherine McCarthy is a Welsh working class writer who weaves dark tales on an ancient loom.
Her longer works include Immortelle, Mosaic, A Moonlit Path of Madness, The Wolf and the Favour, The House at the End of Lacelean Street and her most recent novella, Death of a Clown, which published May '25 through Sobelo Books.
Her short fiction can be found in various publications, including Gamut Magazine, Dark Matter Magazine and Haven Spec Magazine.
Time away from the loom is spent hiking the Welsh coast path or huddled in an ancient graveyard reading Dylan Thomas or Poe.

"I love a good exorcism story when I can find one. I’ve read William Peter Blatty’s flagship of the sub-genre four or five times over the years. The problem is, with a very few exceptions, it’s quite difficult to find a good exorcism story. In fact, u" Read more of this review »

“suppose my mother taught me a lesson that day; be grateful for what comes your way and don’t expect too much from life. A cynical viewpoint, some might think, especially in one so young.”

“Contentment in life is far more sustainable than happiness!”

“During the nineteenth century, graveside memorials, known as immortelles, became popular throughout Western Europe. Arrangements of ceramic or beaded flowers, as well as other motifs and trinkets, were displayed beneath glass domes on the graves of those interred as symbols of resurrection and, of course, immortality. “Most people will tell you growing up means you stop believing in Halloween things - I’m telling you the reverse. You start to grow up when you understand that the stuff that scares you is part of the air you breathe.”
