This is a story about a man who was assigned the job to hunt down the right-hand men of Hitler. Some of the men he had to hunt down were Adolf Eichmann who was the Nazi SS-Obersturmbannführer. What he did was he organized and facilitated deportations to ghettos and concentration camps. Another man he hunted down was Martin Bormann who was the personal secretary of Hitler and was the chief of the Nazi Party Chancellery.
He also hunted down Klaus Barbie also known as the “Butcher of Lyon”. Klaus tortured countless adults and children in a hotel in Lyon, France. It is said that he was responsible for the deaths of up to fourteen thousand people. He also hunted down Josef Mengele or the “Angel of Death”, who was the doctor of Auschwitz. Josef preformed horrendous experimentations on the humans of the camp.
The main character is a man named Benny Ferencz. Benny was born a jew in the Transylvania region of Romania. Frencz and his parents immigrated to America. If they didn’t he most likely would have been taken to a concentration camp. Frencz is very courageous and smart which makes him a very likable character. But the author did a very good job of making the nazi’s sound very evil. Overall Bill and Martin did a good job on character development and how we view the characters. There is a downside to this book though. Because it was written about the Nazi Party there are going to be very difficult words such as Obersturmbannführer, Einsatzgruppen, and a lot of the names are very confusing. Also, it was very hard to put myself in any of the characters shoes because I have never been in a situation near to anything in this book. Ultimately I really liked this book and thought it was a good read. My favorite part of the book was also my least favorite part. It was learning all the things that the Nazis did to their victims. It was my favorite part because it was very interesting to learn about. It was also my least favorite part because it was very graphic. I would recommend this book to people if they can handle graphic descriptions. If Bill O’Reilly made a sequel to this I would read it. ...more "
