Migraines

After listening to this TED talk by Amelia Scott Barrett, MD, a lot of things resonated with my journey suffering migraines.  I had to learn the hard way that triptans cause chronification, creating muscle tension, which leads to more migraines.  Even when following all the rules to avoid rebound headaches, I still got them if I used triptans or Ibuprofen at all.

This is a cute series. I think the first one was more funny, but this was still a good book.

I liked that this story and the characters in it are so unique, even if it was kind of weird to have a children's book focused on death. I don't like Edgar Allen Poe's stuff at all, but somehow the quotes used in this were so fitting and even made me ...more

This is such a great book about racism. I loved how Maniac (Jeffrey) truly saw people and cared about them.

I think she does a great job explaining how we can let go of needing to control everything and everyone. Sometimes it felt like it dragged on, particularly at times where it didn't apply to me, like dating. But overall a helpful book. ...more

I loved how the healing factor in this book was God's love. Hollis and Emily's relationship was fun to watch unfold, although some of the other parent/child relationships were a little hard for me to imagine - particularly the grandma being such a je ...more

I'm not a huge fan of the characters. I don't love it when the feminist agenda is pushed so hard the guy seems lame. And the story line just didn't make a ton of sense that so many people started dying to cover up a 20 year old murder. I don't think ...more

I feel like the author's view of teenage girls is skewed by the sheer number of young girls she has counseled who had serious mental health and behavioral issues. She views rebellion as perfectly normal and even desirable. For those struggling with s ...more

Haim G. Ginott
“I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”
Haim G. Ginott, Teacher and Child: A Book for Parents and Teachers
