Dunkle received the Book Award for Speculative Fiction at the 2019 Maine Literary Awards sponsored by the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance.

He grew up in Hampden, Maine and is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. He currently serves as the editor of The Courier-Gazette and The Camden Herald newspapers and as news director for Courier Publications headquartered in Rockland, Maine.

He is married to Christine Thurston Dunkle and has two children.
