Louisa May Alcott
“I’m not like the rest of you; I never made any plans about what I’d do when I grew up; I never thought of being married, as you did. I couldn’t seem to imagine myself anything but stupid little Beth, trotting about at home, of no use anywhere but there. I never wanted to go away, and the hard part now is leaving you all. I’m not afraid, but it seems as if I should be homesick for you even in heaven.”

“I don't pretend to be wise, but I am observing, and I see a great deal more than you'd imagine. I'm interested in other people's experiences and inconsistencies, and, though I can't explain, I remember and use them for my own benefit.”

Calvin,

Thanks for the heads-up! That's so obnoxious when a book is well-written and then KA-BLAM! There's an annoying scene that one would rather not deal with or remember.

I have a favor to ask of your editorial/English-teaching skills. Would you go over a chapter of that story I'm working on? Maybe I'll call you tonight to discuss it with you?

How are things going so far with your kids and the wet weather lately?

-Em

carrie Em, don't read The Thirteenth Tale. I couldn't get through the first few chapters, and I seldom give up on a book. It would definitely be R rated -- and I know I'm more tolerant about that stuff than you are.
