I like Ann Perry and I liked the first book in this series about Elena Standish. But I could use some help understanding A Question of Betrayal. No spoilers intended: in the last couple chapters of the book, Elena's perception of another character changes dramatically. I don't understand why she changed from one deepset conviction about this person to the opposite deepset conviction, well before events actually confirmed her new conviction. If you've read the book, I hope you'll know what I'm talking about. Second, regarding the second character, he (or she) tries to kill Elena. Why? Can anyone help me? Is this bad writing by Perry? or is there information I've missed?
