Suanne Schafer, a retired family practice physician, completed the Stanford University Creative Writing Certificate program in 2014. Her short works have been featured in magazines and anthologies. Her debut women’s fiction novel, A Different Kind of Fire, explores the life of a nineteenth century bisexual artist living in West Texas was released in November 2018.. Hunting the Devil, her second novel, involves a physician caught up in the Rwandan genocide and will be released September 15, 2019. She is a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association.

Second, just because I'm not currently expressing my personal degree of bisexuality, doesn't mean I'm incapable of expressing it on the page. (I'm also not expressing my personal degree of heterosexuality. Having divorced after a lengthy marriage, the thought of entering any relationship is abhorrent for the moment.)
Third, back in the 1800s, "romantic friendships" between person of the same sex were fairly common. Abraham Lincoln had one with his friend Joshua Speed. At that time, women were going to college in increasing numbers, usually to all-girls schools. So romantic friendship between women were becoming more common. As women's rights progressed, in the 1920s, men became aware that women's sexuality was not limited to intercourse with a male, and thus began the public outcry against relationships. (less)
