In this gripping story about a wizard named Harry, some amazing and interesting things transpire. Harry Potter, an orphan, lives with his dreadful muggle , non-magical people, aunt and uncle. Along with his ill-tempered cousin Dudley. One day when harry was walking with his awful cousin a small group of hooded creatures named dementors came and attacked the pair! Harry unable to use magic outside of his wizarding school, Hogwarts was unsure what to do. Then as the dementors swooped down to try to kill the two he had no choice but to use a spell to drive them away. When the minister of magic heard of this he tried to expel Harry, but the headmaster Albus Dumbledore, who is also a great friend, to Harry came to his rescue. Now even though harry was not going to be expelled he was still in for a big surprise when he got to school. A woman named Dolores Umbridge, a worker at the wizard government called the ministry of magic, was named high inquisitor of Hogwarts. She abolished clubs, teams and study groups, she also fired teachers she did not feel deserved to teach kids. Though all of this was nothing to what she did next, she abolished the use of magic in her class, defense against the dark arts. This made harry and the entire Gryffindor house upset, so Harry and his two best friends Ron Weasley and Herminoe Granger created a secret club called Dumbledore`s Army, a place where students could practice the magic they need to practice. Although the club was careful not to let slip of their existence, a member was taken by Professor Umbridge and her rule inforcement squad, forced the student to tell her the meaning, the members, and especially the leader, Harry. While all of this occurred something more serious was happening not far away. Harry`s, thought to be fugitive uncle, Sirious Black was captured by Harry`s worst enemy, Lord Voldemort. Harry and the other members of Dumbledore`s army set off to rescue him, but when they got there Voldemort and his crew were waiting and ready to attack them. Harry thought all was lost when he saw it was 10 kids VS. 20 highly trained killers. Then as the Death Eaters were about to strike a loud crack was heard and about 15 of Harry`s allies from the Order of the Phoenix arrived to help. In all the commotion and confusion Harry`s uncle and only caring family he had, was killed. Though he and his friends defeated Voldemort once again he felt he had lost as his loving uncle slipped away.
The theme of this story is to depend on your friends for help, like when he forms the DA, and when the Order of the Phoenix came and saved Harry and his friends. Also that you cant always get what you want, for example when Harry`s uncle dies. Also to focus on what you want, how to get there, and the people who will help you.
I think anyone who enjoys a good book with an interesting plot, characters and in this case a very different setting, a magical school. People who enjoy books about fantasy and action would love this book, and people who don’t should give this book a try, I guarantee it will open their eyes to a great genre of books. this book is very similar to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. They are similar because the 3 main characters, two boys one girl. Also the themes are similar, they teach you about life, problems and friendship all while with an interesting and magical twist.
A quote from the book, when harry is leaving to go home: he somehow could not not find the words to tell them what their goodbyes meant to him, to see them all ranged there, on his side. Instead he smiled and raised his hand in sincere farewell. Page 870 (last page)
I found this book interesting, funny, suspenseful, somewhat disturbing and very well written. The book affected me very little though, it was a very, very good book, but the way it was written did not move or make me feel differently about everyday life after reading it. I enjoyed the book for many reasons, the way it was written was very smart, third person limited was the perfect point of view in this book. I enjoyed the suspense that built up and the way she finished the book off with a bang. This was an overall perfectly written book. ...more "
