One of the few times where the movie was about as good as the book. Slightly different ending.

One of Stephen King's more enjoyable books, especially considering almost every character in the book isn't just unlikeable, they're pretty much unable to be anything else besides loathed. I'm not really sure what the takeaway of the book is.

A frustrating, safe book. Frankly, by 2016 it wasn't all that shocking to say the Iraq War was a bad idea and to hear that American hubris was largely to blame for its failure. The book does alright through talking with people about their experiences ...more
The Mirror Test by J. Kael Weston
"DIdn't like this book quite as much as I expected. It's an account by a State Department official who served in Iraq and Afghanistan for a total of 7 years. There are a lot of remarkable moments and anecdotes in this book, but there's also an exce..." Read more of this review »

Some turbo-History Nerds are going to like this a lot - like, more of one than I am - but 4000 lines of "alliterative poetry" makes me want to stab myself in the crotch. Alliterative associations of Arthurian adventure are annoying and arduous. Yeah, ...more

A wonderful read, probably the best I've read all year. The author does a great job of infusing humor into a story about wrestling, but also about youth and friendship. Someone unfamiliar with the LWF might have a hard time keeping some of the charac ...more

I don't know about this one - I feel like Murakami's last priority in this one was to tell an interesting, clever story. There are elements of sheer brilliance in here - the portion of The Boatmen was amazing, as were some of the ideas - but Murakami ...more
