Thomm Quackenbush is an author and teacher in the Hudson Valley. He has published four novels in his Night's Dream series (We Shadows, Danse Macabre, Artificial Gods, and Flies to Wanton Boys). He has sold jewelry in Renaissance England, confused as a mad scientist, filed away ten thousand books, and tried to educate the learning disabled, adjudicated, and gifted.

He is capable of crossing one eye, raising one eyebrow, and once accidentally groped a ghost. He finds that friends do not enjoy the extremes he goes to in order to research books, as these involve mortuaries and UFO support groups.

He is available for panels and talks about writing, aliens, mysteries, and murder. He is even available for panels on writing mysteries about murderin

Jasmine Woods was a minor character in We Shadows and Danse Macabre, so I thought I would flesh her out a bit more and explore the mystery of the UFO flap that involved Pine Bush. I went to several meetings of the United Friends Observer Society to get material, which definitely helped to shape the story. (less)

Mr. Oswald waited just long enough to see Arden and Roselyn escort Kit over the crest of the hill. "Steward, did you hear there was a shooting last night?" he asked, pointing to her shoulder with his pipe stem. "Poor driver ruined his car. He's worried sick about his fare, who he is sure must be dead somewhere." The daemon did not ask this idly, nor even

This is an original read. Just kidding!

Oh, did that delivery seem, at best, hackneyed and juvenile? Because Hagel makes that joke constantly, with no self-awareness that his child would likely roll his eyes at something played out in his elementary

My only two complaints are that:

1) It needed a more merciless editor at times. There are parts that drag because the rest sparkles and speeds around the reader.
2) Surely not every named female character (aside from Eugene) can have sexual chemistry

“She was not suicidal; that is what people never managed to grasp. Cutting relieved the pressure and stood as some enduring demonstration of her emotion, some way to be in control of a body that could toss her about with seizures. It was borderline artistic to mark her body, chiaroscuro designs in blood. Dying is the last thing she would want, like any healthy organism. A little pain, a small invoked sting trailing her arm, brought her much closer to grounded when she could not keep her head from racing, her thoughts from consuming her with obsession. An ounce of liquid weight loss and she could go back to being herself again. Usually.”
Thomm Quackenbush, Danse Macabre

“She was an exotic flower amongst the snowdrifts, out of place, a Technicolor misfit in a monochrome Christmas movie.”
Thomm Quackenbush, We Shadows

“His kisses were so hungry and male, which isn't bad. Every kiss said he could never have enough, but he wasn't going to stop trying. They were so hormonal. I wanted his sugar roughness. Girl's kisses are deliberate and polished. When she kisses me - when I kiss her - she doesn't want me. She has me and knows it.”

“I missed you,” she cried into him. Standing on top of the snow gave him an additional few inches on her and she rested her head against his chest. She could hear nothing within, just her own heartbeat echoing.”
Thomm Quackenbush, We Shadows

“I think it simply comes down to fantasy being the language I speak. While I cannot get into epic sword and sorcery, I see the world as having the potential to be slightly off-kilter. I have run into people who do not quite seem human – though of course they are – and have been privy to coincidences that almost make me believe in magic. Fantasy is sometimes just asking yourself, “Well, what if you are wrong? What if the world doesn’t work the way you think? What would that mean?”
Thomm Quackenbush

“Childhood is this time of magic and monsters; hoping for one and fearing the other... The worst part of being a kid is discovering which one exists... So, I chose to believe in magic.”
