Thomm Quackenbush is an author and teacher in the Hudson Valley. He has published four novels in his Night's Dream series (We Shadows, Danse Macabre, Artificial Gods, and Flies to Wanton Boys). He has sold jewelry in Renaissance England, confused as a mad scientist, filed away ten thousand books, and tried to educate the learning disabled, adjudicated, and gifted.

He is capable of crossing one eye, raising one eyebrow, and once accidentally groped a ghost. He finds that friends do not enjoy the extremes he goes to in order to research books, as these involve mortuaries and UFO support groups.

He is available for panels and talks about writing, aliens, mysteries, and murder. He is even available for panels on writing mysteries about murderin

Jasmine Woods was a minor character in We Shadows and Danse Macabre, so I thought I would flesh her out a bit more and explore the mystery of the UFO flap that involved Pine Bush. I went to several meetings of the United Friends Observer Society to get material, which definitely helped to shape the story. (less)

With enough time, anyone could have broken in. Snatch a key from a distracted librarian, jab a pocketknife in a latch, know which switch turned on the lights and not off the power, and creep down creaking stairs. Child's play. Though she

Thomm’s Recent Updates

Piercing the Darkness by Katherine Ramsland
"This book is the perfect way to introduce you to the Awful Library Books blog. It should really be weeded--for a book that's not about technology, it has aged surprisingly badly.

I mean, it was definitely more timely when it was published in 1998." Read more of this review »

I Found Puppets Living In My Apartment Walls by Ben Farthing
"Sigh. I thought I was done reading for the year, but then I received this Christmas “gift” from Spencer. Christmas isn’t really a thing here. It’s a normal workday, but I managed to get the day off. What better way to spend the holiday than with some" Read more of this review »

I despised Booth’s last book. It bordered on unhinged in its grand conspiracy, and I finished it only to gather fodder for future novels that might need someone ranting about how they were too cool for the Illuminati—which was a trial, as it is diffi ...more

To Save Her World by Thomm Quackenbush
“The waiting was what got her. Rituals like this were about timing, sacrifices at the appointed hour, and herbs plucked at dawn. Couldn’t magical beings show when called? It was rude to force those averting your machination to take time out of their day for your demonic prissiness.”

“She was not suicidal; that is what people never managed to grasp. Cutting relieved the pressure and stood as some enduring demonstration of her emotion, some way to be in control of a body that could toss her about with seizures. It was borderline artistic to mark her body, chiaroscuro designs in blood. Dying is the last thing she would want, like any healthy organism. A little pain, a small invoked sting trailing her arm, brought her much closer to grounded when she could not keep her head from racing, her thoughts from consuming her with obsession. An ounce of liquid weight loss and she could go back to being herself again. Usually.”
Thomm Quackenbush, Danse Macabre

“She was an exotic flower amongst the snowdrifts, out of place, a Technicolor misfit in a monochrome Christmas movie.”
Thomm Quackenbush, We Shadows

“His kisses were so hungry and male, which isn't bad. Every kiss said he could never have enough, but he wasn't going to stop trying. They were so hormonal. I wanted his sugar roughness. Girl's kisses are deliberate and polished. When she kisses me - when I kiss her - she doesn't want me. She has me and knows it.”

“I missed you,” she cried into him. Standing on top of the snow gave him an additional few inches on her and she rested her head against his chest. She could hear nothing within, just her own heartbeat echoing.”
Thomm Quackenbush, We Shadows

“I think it simply comes down to fantasy being the language I speak. While I cannot get into epic sword and sorcery, I see the world as having the potential to be slightly off-kilter. I have run into people who do not quite seem human – though of course they are – and have been privy to coincidences that almost make me believe in magic. Fantasy is sometimes just asking yourself, “Well, what if you are wrong? What if the world doesn’t work the way you think? What would that mean?”
Thomm Quackenbush

“Childhood is this time of magic and monsters; hoping for one and fearing the other... The worst part of being a kid is discovering which one exists... So, I chose to believe in magic.”
