Ciao a tutti!

I have two publications in the works that will come out before the end of the year in print and as ebooks. The first is a companion book to "Il vero italiano": a book of exercises to help you practice some of the grammar profiled in the book as well as some addendum to the original book.

The second book is a guide on how to use the Italian subjunctive (il congiuntivo). This is a book that I have been working on for a few years now, and, with Francesco's help, I can now get it into print to share with all of you. There isn't a really great guide in English on using the Italian subjunctive. This book will hopefully fill an important gap!(less)

The idea for my most recent -- and first book -- came about for two reasons. First, I ran a blog, paroladelgiorno.com, and I wanted to find a way to give back to all my readers who have helped make the blog and Facebook/Twitter pages such a success since 2006. It was a thank you gift to those who donated to help keep the site free.

Second, I have been living in Rome since 2012. I came here to work on my master's degree. I have been studying Italian politics and international relations, and my experiences living here in Rome has given me a unique insight in the language. All of my flatmates in Rome have been Italians, so I speak Italian 90% of the time I am here (except at university where the courses are in English) and have traveled around Italy. This has helped me to learn a lot about the language as well as use the language correctly. When you speak a language every day, you quickly realize the mistakes you make. Sometimes you realize, "Oh, wow, I never learned that aspect of Italian grammar right" or "I didn't realize I was pronouncing that wrong." My immersion experience has taught me a lot, and the book, I hope, conveys a lot of this to the reader.

My friend, Francesco (the co-author), helped me improve my language skills, and he was the perfect person to work with on the book. He also wrote chapter 3 on the use of the definite and indefinite articles (which I then translated into English). He also helped me with a majority of the examples presented in the book. I wanted the examples to be as Italian as possible and use the language as Italians use it. The examples in the book are really the best part, and I hope that those of you who read the book will study the examples. They will truly help you to speak better Italian!

Soon I hope to go onto a doctorate program in political science, and I would like to continue to do advanced research into international relations and Italian politics. I feel more confident now with my language skills to be able to do that. If you ever get the chance to immerse yourself in any language (not only Italian), take the chance. You won't regret the opportunity and the amazing rewards that will come.(less)
