Thomas Oliver Ott is a retired history professor at the University of North Alabama. He specialized in Caribbean history, Haiti in particular. His book on Haiti's great slave revolution was published in 1973 and has high standing among works on that subject.

In 2019 Ott completed the story of Saturday, a slave who saved his grandfather and uncle of eight generations ago from sure death in the holocaust of the Haitian Revolution. He brought them to Charleston and raised them as his own children, while remaining a slave. He later became involved in the Vesey conspiracy, fled to Cuba, and gained his freedom. Thru it all, he had a torrid love affair with a voodoo priestess.

Professor Ott lives at home with his wife and three cats.
