I rate books based on my own experiences, not necessarily to influence others or even inform them. Sometimes, I do write reviews, but I often just give stars to be able to sort them in my own list. For that book, I read the audio version, and I loved it. I am also influenced because I lived in Germany and appreciated insight into some of the things in the book. So, no, the short answer is that I don't feel that I owe anyone reviews.(less)

Remember That Day by Mary Balogh
"I liked the first part of Remember That Day. I think Balogh handled the trope well at the start. Two people who are supposed to be courting other people end up falling for each other instead. That’s just messy and I'm all for it. Unfortunately, the s" Read more of this review »

“The only ones among you who will be truly happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve others.”
Lisa Van Gemert, Perfectionism: A Practical Guide to Managing "Never Good Enough"

“Let us become intentional to use personal slights, inconveniences, acts of gossip and slander, times of difficulty, and even sickness as opportunities to grow in patience and understanding and humility instead of bitterly resenting each one.”
Gary L. Thomas, Every Body Matters: Strengthening Your Body to Strengthen Your Soul

“I’ll tell you a secret. I’m not responsible for whether my students care or don’t care. That care has to come from them—not me.” “Where does that leave you?” “No matter what, Ari, my job is to care.” “Even when they don’t?” “Even when they don’t.” “No matter what?” “No matter what.”
Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, remembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.

—T.S. Eliot, from “Little Gidding,” Four Quartets (Gardners Books; Main edition, April 30, 2001) Originally published 1943.”
T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”
Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

“If it be now, ’tis not to come. If it be not to come, it will be now. If it be not now, yet it will come—the readiness is all.”
William Shakespeare, Hamlet
