“it wasn't the clothes that made this face, this woman, different. It was something behind her eyes, something in the set of her jaw--a hope or belief or conviction--that a life is not a thing unalterable....I suppose it was something like faith.”
Tara Westover, Educated

Glennon Doyle Melton
“I’d like to be kind, and at the very least not add to people’s pain.”
Glennon Doyle Melton, Carry On, Warrior: Thoughts on Life Unarmed

“When you write your truth, it is a love offering to the world because it helps us feel braver and less alone.”
Glennon Doyle Melton, Carry On, Warrior: The Power of Embracing Your Messy, Beautiful Life

Glennon Doyle
“Easy” buttons are the things that appear in front of us that we want to reach for because they temporarily take us out of our pain and stress. They do not work in the long run, because what they actually do is help us abandon ourselves. “Easy” buttons take us to fake heaven. Fake heaven always turns out to be hell. You know you’ve hit an “easy” button when, afterward, you feel more lost in the woods than you did before you hit it. It has taken me forty years to decide that when I feel bad, I want to do something that makes me feel better instead of worse.
I keep a handwritten poster in my office titled “Easy Buttons and Reset Buttons.”
On the left are all the things I do to abandon myself.
On the right are my reset buttons, the things I can do to make staying with myself a little more possible.”
Glennon Doyle, Untamed

“Wherever you go, there you are. Your emptiness goes with you. Maddening. Things that help: writing, reading, water, walks, forgiving myself every other minute, practicing easy yoga, taking deep breaths, and petting my dogs. These things don't fill me completely, but they remind me that it is not my job to fill myself. It's just my job to notice my emptiness and find graceful ways to live as a broken, unfilled human...

If there's a silver lining to the emptiness, here it is: the unfillable is what brings people together. I've never made a friend by bragging about my strengths, but I've made countless by sharing my weakness and my emptiness.”
Glennon Doyle Melton, Carry On, Warrior: Thoughts on Life Unarmed
