"They Call Me Blanca" was started on an empty Sam's Pizza box in teeny, tiny writing. If it comes to deciding a plot twist ( or what have you) and I'm really stumped, that's where having a close group of sounding boards available to offer their ideas or opinions. You may or may not use their ideas, but they most certainly will spark some for you. (less)

In this way, storytelling not only becomes a commentary of social issues and ideas, but it becomes a catalyst of positive change or perspective. I like what J. Updike says, "I want to write books that unblock the traffic jam in people's minds."(less)

A Teacher’s View: Remote Learning and COVID-19

We were given short notice that the schools in our district would be closed for an indefinite amount of time due to COVID-19. The scramble to get things set-up for our students to continue learning and meet their needs during this time, had less panic and more positive energy than you would think possible.

We gave our educators almost no notice. We asked them to completely redesign wha

“As a teenager I clearly remember mornings when I was getting ready for school when something would -just still me- and
I would lean forward and peer very intensely into the eyes of the girl in that mirror.
who is that? I didn't know . I looked into those eyes as if they had the answer to who I am
or who I could be."
So I would search the depths of those green and blue flecked eyes.
Calmly searching the eyes of this stranger as if I thought that if I looked deep enough, or long enough, I would find the answer to why I was even here.
I didn't know what I know now.
That I could only find out my identity,
who I was
when I stopped looking into my own eyes
and instead searched in the eyes of Jesus. Only He could REALLY tell me who I am. Who I can be. Who I will be...”
Laura A. Diaz

“Responding with eyes filled with introspection and a soft, slow voice, Cayla confessed, “I don’t. I don’t have all the answers. But I cling desperately to the Hand of the One who does. Because sometimes that’s just the best you can do.”"

“Está todo bien, baby! It's all good.”
Laura A. Diaz (a.k.a. L. Diaz)

“Sometimes you have to be apart from people you love, but that doesn't make you love them any less. Sometimes you love them more.”
Nicholas Sparks, The Last Song

“But believe me, there is beauty in it still. Truth. The light of freshness is buried in us and in every moment we breathe. It is there. Sometimes we are so encrusted, so rotted over with misery, bad situations, that we can’t see it. Feel it. But it is there.”
Alexs D. Pate, West of Rehoboth

“Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”
Rick Warren
