Called "a superior whodunit" in a starred review from Publishers Weekly, "The Easter Confession" is Charles Monagan's most recent work of fiction. Before that, his "Carrie Welton," won across-the-board praise as a historical novel set in 1860s New England.
Monagan was born in New England himself and has spent all of his working life there, first as a newspaper reporter and then for many years as Editor of Connecticut Magazine. Along the way, he published several humor books as well as two editions of the nonfiction "Connecticut Icons."

Charles Monagan I hope you'll give my new novel "Carrie Welton" a go. It's just been named an "Editor's Choice" by the Historical Novel Society, so if that's a genre you like, this book, with its 19th-century young female protagonist, should be for you. Here's what the HNS had to say in part:
“Let me assure you that this is not a poor-little-rich-girl sob story, but a textured, penetrating portrayal of real persons and actual events. Charles Monagan writes a terrific tale in Carrie Welton, one of the smoothest reads I’ve seen in a long time. Mr. Monagan’s career as an award-winning writer and editor spans decades, but this is his first novel. I hope it won’t be his last. Highly recommended.”
