At Harvard, Katrina Tangen studied the History of Science. Now she introduces STEAM to scientists of the future through books like RAMP IT UP! (Charlesbridge, 2026) and the award-winning COPY THAT, COPY CAT!: INVENTIONS INSPIRED BY ANIMALS (Barefoot Books, 2023). Katrina uses a power wheelchair because she’s disabled by ME/CFS. She lives in Southern California between Disneyland and the beach.

Cover Reveal: Ramp It Up!

Cover of picture book titled Ramp It Up!, written by Katrina Tangen, illustrated by Wendy Wen, part of Charlesbridges Steam Works series.

Im excited to share the cover of RAMP IT UP!

Isnt it cute? Its fun to see how Wendy brought everyone to life!

C.S. Lewis
“There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”
C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the “Dawn Treader”

Jeanne Birdsall
“And I don't know if Batty's gotten over it yet,' said Skye.

Mr. Penderwick looked out the window to where Batty was playing vampires with Hound. Hound was on his back, trying to wiggle out of the black towel Batty had tied around his neck. Batty was leaping over Hound's water bowl, shrieking, 'Blood, blood!'

'She looks all right,' he said.”
Jeanne Birdsall, The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy

C.S. Lewis
“In our world," said Eustace, "a star is a huge ball of flaming gas."
Even in your world, my son, that is not what a star is, but only what it is made of.”
C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Jeanne Birdsall
“I've been going insane reading my students' papers. Apparently several of them think the Hubble Space Telescope is used to search the universe for hubbles."
~ Ithana Aaronson”
Jeanne Birdsall, The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

C.S. Lewis
“Do you mean to say," asked Caspian, "that you three come from a round world (round like a ball) and you've never told me! It's really too bad for you. Because we have fairy-tales in which there are round worlds and I have always loved them … Have you ever been to the parts where people walk about upside-down?"
Edmund shook his head. "And it isn't like that," he added. "There's nothing particularly exciting about a round world when you're there.”
