To sum up, I loved this book. So much happened it was crazy! I'll start off by talking about the characters, since there were so many events - some characters really shone for me, although most of them did if I'm honest.

One of the characters who really stood out to me was Cristina. I loved her in Lady Midnight, and I didn't think it was possible to love her more but in Lord of Shadows we saw a lot more of her emotions and how she reacted with other characters - especially Mark, Emma and Kieran. The sort of love triangle between her, Mark and Kieran it getting even more interesting, and I'm loving that they're finally talking things out between them. I have to say I prefer her with Mark over Perfect Diego, but seeing him with Zara was shocking. But she's another matter.
I also thought it was really cute how she spoke to Rafe in Spanish!

Speaking of Zara - what a bitch! She's a different kind of villain. Most villains in Cassie's world I love as characters because they're so complex - for example, Valentine. And even Sebastian was unique because briefly we saw the son he could have been. However, this Zara is just hateful. I think the reason I hate her so much is because she reflects bigots we have in the real world who may not be prejudiced against Downworlders, but it's a similar issue. I also hated her immensely for pretending she killed Malcolm and taking credit for everything. The Cohort's demonstration at the end of the book actually made me sick to the stomach. It was very hard to read, but necessary. I dread to think what will happen in the next book!

I actually made a couple of predictions for this book. Firstly, I was very pleased that I guessed that Diana was transgender! I don't know quite why I thought she was, but I loved that there was trans representation. I'm not trans myself so I can't speak for the community but representation is so important - I also loved that Diana was described as feminine and beautiful and had Gwyn approach her as a love interest! I understand why she wasn't able to be the head of the Los Angeles institute, although I wish she could be. I have a feeling people will find out and the Cohort won't like it, but I really hope it works out for Diana because I love her character. I'd love see more of her and Gwyn too!

The second prediction I made was that Livvy would die. I discussed this many times with my friend, and we came to the conclusion that one of the twins would most likely die. We determined it would be Livvy, because it would solve Ty's dilemma of being parabatai vs joining the Scholomance. We also didn't think Ty would die as his relationship with Kit needs to develop. Therefore, by process of elimination we thought Livvy would die. However, I was still shocked at the end when Annabel killed her. It will be interesting to see how Ty reacts, and I hope his family and Kit are able to help him through it.

What I thought was sad was seeing Annabel and Malcolm's relationship through his diaries and told by other people. It was heartbreaking to see her being interrogated and after all Malcolm did raising her back up I wasn't surprised that she was unstable, and I knew after Magnus wasn't able to be with her things were going to go downhill. I did truly feel sorry for Annabel but after the end... I think her being raised from the dead really must have changed her.

I have to say while I suspected Livvy would die, I was very shocked that Robert died! I was not expecting that at all, and while I think it was an accident I think the Cohort are going to use his death against the Blackthorns and for their own gain. I think this came at a really bad time, especially since Robert had recently become a lot closer with Alec and Magnus. And he won't get to see Simon and Izzy's wedding! Politically, I think his death will be very important in the last book.

We got more of a sense of the war to come in this book as there was more information regarding the Unseelie King. There will definitely be most of the action in the next book as it's the last in the trilogy, although I can't even predict what's going to happen! I bet there will be a massive war, and I dread to think who else will die.

There is so much I didn't even get to discuss but it would take me forever! This book was amazing, and now I need the next book! I can't believe we have to wait until 2019, but at least we do get the first Last Hours book in 2018. ...more "
