A.K. Downing is a two-time National Indie Excellence Award Finalist. Her young adult trilogy is set in a fantasy world and follows the adventure of teenager Mia Bryn as she leaves the safety of her underground compound and tries to survive in a world no one has inhabited for centuries.

Growing up in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, Aimee spent her summers exploring the fields, woods, and orchards of her grandparents' farm. She was inspired by prepper shows and survivalist websites to create a story that weaves together the best aspects of young adult fiction – adventure, friendship, and a hint of romance.

Aimee studied graphic design at Kent State University and currently works as a Creative Director. She enjoys history and camping and

My daughter and I were walking home from a play date and she made up a story about a man who stole things. At some point during her story she told me his name. When I got home I wrote the name down the best I could remember: Mehgo Capiro.

Over the course of the next 4 months, bits of my story began to surface. I thought it odd that ideas kept coming to me… so I wrote some of them down. And then I wrote down more. And before I knew it I had notepads, tablets of all sizes, and scraps of paper scattered everywhere -coated with plot points, rough sentences, and random thoughts.

There were many times I wanted to stop writing. Late nights of editing after I put my daughter to bed. Evenings when I just couldn’t seem to make a paragraph work. But I was consistently driven to continue by the sheer need to tell the story. And now I’m so glad I kept with it. The story that took 4 years to pull together is finally published for someone else to enjoy!(less)

“...this world was so foreign to me, so incredibly unknown. I knew every inch of the compound. Every room. Where every door led. Out here I knew nothing. I slowed my breathing and tried to get my bearings, but for all I knew of this world, I might as well be running on the moon.”

A.K. Downing A wonderful review by an Amazon Customer:

A nicely complicated and emotionally satisfying book. The heroine, Mia, has secrets that even she does not know the answers--it seems like everyone she meets makes those secrets even more important than she had ever imagined. A very satisfying read, I look forward to the next book by this talented author.
