To answer your question: I grew up in liberal Connecticut and considered myself a Democrat for years; I phone banked for Hillary when she first ran for POTUS. When the DNC Super Delegates decided to give the nod to Obama, I was miffed; I was just starting my political involvement and hadn't realized that it was possible to have my vote overridden that way. I later identified as a Republican in the hope that my vote would count; after years of working within the GOP in different local campaigns in Florida, I eventually got a job for a non-profit, "non-partisan" organization whose mission was to spread awareness of economic issues. While canvassing homes door to door and speaking to voters face to face, I realized that the vast majority identified as Independents, but registered as either DNC or GOP because they had to in order to vote in the primaries. I also realized that partisanship was keeping them from communicating with other voters; although they were answering my economic questions the exact same way as their neighbors, they'd warn me repeatedly that "the guy next door has no idea what he's talking about; he's a (fill in the name of the opposing party)"! In other words, they were actually agreeing with their neighbors on the issues, but were missing the opportunity to pull their resources to create the change that they both sought, simply because they were supposedly from different parties. The breakdown in communication was due to partisanship; having been a member of both parties myself, I understood that while parties are ok for representatives, they work against the interests of the American people. I decided to do something about it; that's how "Politiquette" was born.

Please let me know your thoughts on the book; your feedback is vital and welcome. If the message rings true to you, please spread the word; my hope is that more voters will adopt the seven simple steps to more effective political discourse, and in so doing, will nurture a political system that will offer us better candidates moving forward.

Thanks again for your time and consideration, Mary; both are greatly appreciated! Have an awesome day! (less)

Oxygen Thief Fails to Deliver

Diary Of An Oxygen Thief (The Oxygen Thief Diaries #1) Diary Of An Oxygen Thief by Anonymous

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Based on a brilliant premise - a former emotional abuser gets his comeuppance and bears his soul about the event - this book had me hooked on page one. The candid way in which the author describes the drivers, routines, and satisfaction of emotional abusers in Chapter One was spellbinding; the promise that he will, eventually, meet hi Read more of this blog post »
