Dr. Bridges specializes in film/television/game music and sound, especially in Japanese and US animation; US and UK popular music of the long 1960s and long 1980s; music in contemporary Japan; and Wagner studies. Bridges' research particularly examines the way that music in Japanese anime constructs identity such as gender, sexuality, race and nationality; how music defines film genre; and questions of authorship in anime soundtracks. She earned her Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2022, and she also holds a Master of Music degree in musicology from Boston University (2015) and a Bachelor of Music in composition from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University (2012). More of Rose's books…
Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
Kurt Vonnegut, Mother Night

Oscar Wilde
“The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”
Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Jane Austen
“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

Margaret Atwood
“Male fantasies, male fantasies, is everything run by male fantasies? Up on a pedestal or down on your knees, it's all a male fantasy: that you're strong enough to take what they dish out, or else too weak to do anything about it. Even pretending you aren't catering to male fantasies is a male fantasy: pretending you're unseen, pretending you have a life of your own, that you can wash your feet and comb your hair unconscious of the ever-present watcher peering through the keyhole, peering through the keyhole in your own head, if nowhere else. You are a woman with a man inside watching a woman. You are your own voyeur.”
Margaret Atwood, The Robber Bride

Joan Didion
“I think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not. Otherwise they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the mind's door at 4 a.m. of a bad night and demand to know who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends.”
Joan Didion, Slouching Towards Bethlehem
