Looking for the answers I dug out the memoir he wrote years ago that I had stashed away, started reading and couldn't stop. That became the basis of this new book about an Eastern European Jew who was very unusual for his time and had many interesting and enlightening true stories to tell.
About No Regrets, when I moved to Barcelona at the age of 52, I found a whole new world. I described this world to friends through emails. Most of my friends had never been to Catalonia and found the descriptions interesting and suggested I save the emails to maybe write a book in the future. More than 20 years later, here it is!(less)

Maybe what some people call beautiful writing for me is just flowery words put together in such a way that you can't figure out what the writer is trying to say. I don't like that kind of writing. Chapter 5, the last chapter that I tried to read was ...more

"A beautiful story of a remarkable love, home building, and homing pigeons. Every page drips with wisdom, sweetness, melancholy, and magic. Too many succinct passages to count. So many chuckles and smiles that twist to heart tingles. What a masterpiec" Read more of this review »

Gave-up is exaggerating. I read three pages (twice, thinking maybe they would be better the second time) and stopped. I hate this book. I hate this kind of writing. I read somewhere that it is post-modern. I guess I am not.

I don't know why I didn't see this sooner, just found it tonight. Oh well, I probably couldn't do a heist either and certainly can't paint. I'll have to wait til my next life to write my novel. So, I guess we will both be reading as much as we can -and enjoying that a lot.

Dvora Treisman Patty, I don't think I am up to any of that! I wouldn't mind, but just don't have it in me to attempt a heist or paint anything. I do write, but not novels. I'll just keep on reading about these and dream!
