Yet another book I didn't like and didn't finish. It wasn't terrible -- just boring. I didn't care for the writing style, and basically it didn't speak to me.

Cezanne by Meyer Schapiro
"[I read this book 8 years ago. But now that I am working through these paintings carefully, one-by-one, I am going to reread sections of this — focusing primarily on landscapes.

[It was good finally to finish this. Parts of it were difficult to rea..." Read more of this review »

After reading her wonderful Journey Into the Mind's Eye, I was disappointed with this. The four women seemed like cardboard figures, Aimee Dubucq de Ribery seemed like Blanch's concoction since she had no material from that time to go by, except the ...more

Cèzanne by Richard Kendall
" Is Callen's book only about Cezanne? or is it the Plein Air book you are referring to? I can't find a Cezanne title written by her. "
The Little Grey Men by B.B.

I didn't get far -- just far enough to know it's not my cup of tea. The blurb says it's wildly funny, but I found it deadly boring.

Interesting to learn about the two designers although I have to admit, I was pretty confused for a while. The illustrations didn't seem show the kind paintings I remember seeing in Barcelona, nor did he seem to be a Catalan -- he was Spanish, born in ...more

I lived in Berkeley for twenty years. I know the area, and I thought I knew the culture, but from the get-go I had no idea what Chabon was talking about.

Why say with a few words what you can say with hundreds? Nine hundred seventy-four pages. I didn't get very far but of the ones I read, none of them spoke to me.
