Even solid facts can be gaslighted from our memories, like having jobs or having fidelity, not to mention targeting psychological health by adversaries who give armchair diagnosis from Google University. There is probably a lot of gaslighting that goes on from there. I am sure that a popular book could be written that deals with gaslighting in toxic relationships. It mostly happens to women, though I'm sure it isn't always gender specific.(less)

I use it as an exemplary example for my students to learn why authors use first person perspective. The relationship of adoration that Little Joey has for Shane is beautiful. This drifter who came into town with mysteries and integrity leaves the reader besotted with his identity. Though we never know where he came from and where he went, seeing him through the eyes of a child dressed in absolute love and respect is honorable. It is a story of nonjudgement and forgiveness because we never know the other person's circumstance. It is a window into seeing a man for who his is without regard to his past. While Joey sees him as a father figure, that image is never torn from the child or the reader as they become a part of a little boy that loves a man in the moment (and for good reason). Wonderful story. Wonderful characters. This is probably the best character development I have ever witnessed, which is bizarre for the very fact that we know nothing of Shane except the man that he is, which is all we really need to know.(less)

The Elegance of Simplicity

I am currently finishing up on a new book that is inspired by minimalism. Any average person can save hundreds of thousands of dollars with an attitude of appreciation, and the knowledge that we can go against the grain of capitalistic ploys to spend our money on wants that we regard as needs. I started saving money later in life when my ex left, taking our life savings with him. I was in my late Read more of this blog post »

“The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”
Nikola Tesla

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
