As a kid, CL Walters’s world revolved around two things: stories and make believe. She’s built a real life around those two passions as a teacher of stories and a writer of make believe.
From a small town in Oregon, she attended college in a smaller town in Oregon majoring in English and adding experiences to fill her creative reservoir. She married her college sweetheart and moved to Hawaiʻi where she now lives. The rich diversity and cultural complexity of Hawaiʻi has added to the tapestry of her creative journey.

In 2020, she started Mixed Plate Press —a publishing imprint—with her husband and has grown it into a thriving business as a published author, writing coach, ghostwriter, editor, and teacher.

She says she reads and writes everyday

A great question (And I'm sorry I'm only seeing it now). All of the books occur in the same universe. The Stories Stars Tell is a stand alone (and was written first), but the main character from In the Echo of this Ghost Town is in The Stories Stars Tell as a secondary character (and is a jerk). You can read them both on their own without the other, but for additional perspective starting with The Stories Stars Tell will make you hate the main character of In the Echo of this Ghost Town worse. :) When the Echo Answers is a companion to In the Echo of this Ghost Town (the female character's perspective of the same story) so I would suggest reading it last.(less)

For example: don't sweep the doorway at night. There's a tale of a aswang (a vampire in Filipino culture) that is said to roam the village near where I live, or there's a man-dog werewolf a few valleys over. So many ideas that are both terrifying and creatively intriguing.(less)

I wanted to like it… and perhaps there were redeemable things (the characters were interesting and the overall story arc was concise) but the writing wasn’t very good. The scenes were repetitive, the narrative was repetitive

Lacking Chemistry

I wanted to like John-Ka and Rosa’s story but I just didn’t. While Fenn worked to bring in a dom-sub kink, what didn’t work was how mean they were to each other. The strongest bit (spoiler free) was the 3rd act make up. What did wor

Ernest Hemingway
“But sometimes when I was starting a new story and I could not get it going, I would sit in front of the fire and squeeze the peel of the little oranges into the edge of the flame and watch the sputter of blue that they made. I would stand and look out over the roofs of Paris and think, 'Do not worry. You have always written before and you will write now. All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.' So finally I would write one true sentence, and then go on from there.”
