"First 3 chapters in, feeling hella grim. Thousand years history of old pederastic Roman culture, might be a while before I wrap my head around to pick up the book and read it again.

A friend suggested to skip to chapter 11 right away if I'm not comfortable with all that triggering histories. I might as well tear the book in half!"

“To accept one's past—one's history—is not the same thing as drowning it it; it is learning how to use it. An invented past can never be used; it cracks and crumbles under the pressures of life like clay in a season of drought.”
James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time

Roxane Gay
“We need to stop playing Privilege or Oppression Olympics because we’ll never get anywhere until we find more effective ways of talking through difference. We should be able to say, “This is my truth,” and have that truth stand without a hundred clamoring voices shouting, giving the impression that multiple truths cannot coexist.”
Roxane Gay, Bad Feminist: Essays

Roxane Gay
“All too often, when we see injustices, both great and small, we think, That's terrible, but we do nothing. We say nothing. We let other people fight their own battles. We remain silent because silence is easier. Qui tacet consentire videtur is Latin for 'Silence gives consent.' When we say nothing, when we do nothing, we are consenting to these trespasses against us.”
Roxane Gay, Bad Feminist

Roxane Gay
“I believe feminism is grounded in supporting the choices of women even if we wouldn’t make certain choices for ourselves.”
Roxane Gay, Bad Feminist: Essays
