Kate Cudahy comes from north-west England. She studied literature at the universities of Essex and York before moving to Poland in 2003, where she teaches English as a second language.

Kate writes fantasy fiction with an LGBT focus. Her novels ‘Hal’ and ‘Hannac’ follow the exploits of a young duellist, Hal Thæc, as she searches for love against the odds. Kate is currently writing a third novel, ‘The Firefarer’ ─ epic fantasy with a postmodern twist.

That kind of work requires you to be really disciplined, to sit down for several hours every day, to weigh up every word you use and to be incredibly scrupulous. It was difficult, but I think it was great training for fiction - it's not a problem for me to make a regular date with my writing. My only problem is not having enough time to write. That drives me crazy. (less)

There comes a point in your life when you realise you can't control everything around you - the world is a chaotic place and things happen in it which you just can't make sense of. But when you write, you can make everything fit into place. Telling stories has always been one way in which human beings give order to their existence. (less)

Kate Cudahy just completed Ali Smith's How to be Both for the second time - if it's possible to fall in love with a book, I fell for this one.

Kate Cudahy So just finished The Luminaries. Now started a Nora Robert's. Variety is the spice of life.

Kate Cudahy I've decided to start posting my new story using the blog function here on goodreads. I'll also be posting it on my google + feed. That may seem like a strange idea, but the book itself is going to be fairly experimental so it kind of suits the story. Postings will probably be sporadic, but I'll keep them as regular as I possibly can. K :)

Kate Cudahy The final chapters of 'Hannac' have just been posted on Wattpad and the book is now complete. I'll be putting it on my profile soon. In the meantime, here is a link:

Kate Cudahy I never would have added it if it hadn't been for your discovery that people were posting Wattpad stories on here - thanks!

Glad you added Hal! Have a nice break!
Cheers

Kate Cudahy I recently entered the Wattpad Prize with my story Hal
Anyone with a completed story which is posted on Wattpad can enter - deadline for entries is April 30th. Prizes include a copy of your book, plus coverage on their website throughout the whole of June - which, believe me, is great publicity. Details here: http://www.wattpad.com/wattpad-prize

Kate Cudahy I've not been as active as I'd like on here over the past couple of weeks as I'm buried under piles of proofreading - but I miss it already and hope to get back in the flow of things asap!

message 3: by Kate

Kate Cudahy So Slammerkin was excellent - will be posting a review soon. I now need to get through The Hound of the Baskervilles in a few days as some of my students have picked it for a seminar. Ages since I read any Conan Doyle. Can't wait!
