Jaxine "Jaxy" Jeanne Baine is an American novelist following in an oral tradition of storytelling. Baine's focus in storytelling is in often-subtle allegory that incorporates political and philosophical questions as part of the story's backdrop.

Baine was influenced as a young woman by the works of Kurt Vonnegut and J.D. Salinger as well as the traditional family fables that were a central part of her upbringing. Baine often uses humor to deflect difficult emotional topics that are often the inspiration behind her work.
