Joshua Alan Doetsch once built a flesh golem out of grave-robbed parts and uneaten Halloween candy. By strange chance, this golem is fueled on rejection slips. Every day it begs and it pleads, “PLEASE, KIND SIR, KEEP ME ALIVE!” And so Joshua writes. You can thank anyone who accepts his work for allowing the poor golem to go hungry for another day.

Joshua is from Chicago, was writing video game dialogue in Norway, and is currently in Montreal for his next writing gig, where he lives with a one-eyed, black cat named Raven. He has a fondness for fedoras, finds happiness in voodoo doll smiles, does a pretty mean Christopher Walken impersonation, and once upon a road trip dreary, wrote a Blues song about necrophilia. He also writes fascinating in

Madness, Tentacles, & Vampire Dating Apps

Through a glitch in the flow of time, 2019 is already half over. What have I been up to? A mix of cosmic horror, Martian exploration, preternaturally evil dating apps, and late-stage capitalist elves.

Moons of Madness

I spent many months writing for Moons of Madness, a moody horror video game set on Mars. Think of it as an unholy marriage of Cthulhu Mythos and The Martian. T

“Night after night she listens to the howling in the pipes. It gains a bloodcurdling cadence. She hums along. She can almost sing the words. She scratches the pimples dotting her body. They swell to boils. They burst, revealing new eyes. The eyes show her unutterable truths. Soon, she sticks thumb tacks into her tongue so she can better explain these truths to the weeping children whose beds she hides under.”
Joshua Alan Doetsch

“You've heard shards of our voice in the phantom-radio code of a numbers station in the roar of a crowd - in the screams of your clock - in the scrape of a chalkboard - in the snow static of a TV - in the chainsaw-decibel mating of cicadas - in the urban mythos that spreads amongst children like contagion - in the silence between lies.

White noise becomes a cadence. Words develop self-awareness. Viral. Evolving. Living poetry. Sentient language.”
Joshua Alan Doetsch

“Somewhere, a trucker reads alien letters carved into the bathroom stall walls of a truck stop. He cannot look away. Pathogens in the grammar open an event horizon in his head. He spreads the scrawl in every stop on his route, carving it into the stalls. he itches and he scratches. Others see the letters. They itch. They scratch. He scratches his face, draws the runes in red with his box knife. His head blossoms into a bouquet of writhing lampreys.”
Joshua Alan Doetsch

“Do you know what it's like to run spellcheck for six hours? It's like a party in purgatory. A party in purgatory where all they have to drink is sugar-free Kool-aid, and the only game to play is Monopoly, and none of your friends show up.”
Patrick Rothfuss

“I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.”
Edgar Allan Poe

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.”
Edgar Allan Poe, Eleonora

“I have great faith in fools - self-confidence my friends will call it.”
Edgar Allan Poe, Marginalia

“That country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain.”
Ray Bradbury
