Ah, what a fun question. Here's my off the cuff attempt:

His gasp of surprise was less about the dagger buried in his chest and more about his amazement at the old dowager's prowess with a blade. She was quite agile and a deft bladeswoman, especially considering she'd been dead for almost a century.(less)

I thought a silly alphabet book would be one in which each item for each letter was very much like the rest. Thinking on it some more I thought an alphabet of round things would fit the bill. But the more I thought about it, the more challenging it became to come up with things that are round for each letter. And not one to flinch at a challenge, I decided to go for it.(less)

Introducing the new Mulberry & Bliss logo/mascot, drawn by @merlobird (on IG), the same artist who created catchpenny the crow who you might remember.

While all my Mulberry & Bliss mini picture books are by me, making them "self-published", I hope that before the year is out that I will have published at least one mini picture book from an author/illustrator who is not me, so I can truthfu Read more of this blog post »

Bad Badger is a different sort of book but it is well within the parameters of a good story that is quiet, thrilling, touching, and humorous. Ms. Wood's writing is stylistically stylish and fun to read. I'm thinking it is even more fun to read out lo ...more

G.K. Chesterton
“Art is limitation; the essence of every picture is the frame. If you draw a giraffe, you must draw him with a long neck. If in your bold creative way you hold yourself free to draw a giraffe with a short neck, you will really find that you are not free to draw a giraffe.”
G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

Oscar Wilde
“I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.”
Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince and Other Stories

Stephen King
“If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
Stephen King

Stephen King
“The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.”
Stephen King

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.”
Stephen King
