Writer/artist living in small town Michigan. I am a feminist, paddler, rebel wannabe, constant reader, recovering wine snob, and anarchist emeritus.

When I was young, I wanted to be an alien. My brothers think I succeeded.

The first book I could read by myself was "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back." The next book I remember reading was Taylor Caldwell's "Dear and Glorious Physician."

By second grade, I had the thickest glasses in my family. I read by lamp light, moonlight, flashlight, candlelight and the pilot light in the furnace. Books are as important to my survival as water and dark chocolate.

"The palate cleanser I needed--this book of interlocking short stories runs purely on early-2000s academic dinner party vibes. Felt very nostalgic to read, I like books set in this time period, when people still wrote love letters because the internet" Read more of this review »

Took half the book to understand the bickering sects, the inheritance snafu, and then the rest of it to figure out why the Raadchai were so dreadfully ineffective. The pronouns alone were daunting! I love the cover.

I gave this a 4 because it fits the book title, and it's not fair to give it a 3 when I did not read the other blood types all the way through. I'm sure they're just fine. My type O diet is interesting. So, I need to eat lean red meat and anything el ...more

Wonderful. I've put holds on two more Segal books - I'm not quite a nonagenarian, but the women in these short stories are companions I hope I have when I am.

Moving, funny, sad and glorious.

Yes. Out of allthe Booker Prize candidates that one seemed to me the most interesting, but I wanted to start with an earlier book. Will let you know about Rain.
