Бистра Величкова е родена през 1986 г. в София. Завършила е Журналистика в СУ „Св. Климент Охридски” (2009 г.) и двойна магистратура по Европейски науки от Университета в Туенте, Холандия и Вестфалския Вилхелмс Университет в Мюнстер, Германия (2011 г.). Има докторска степен по Журналистика от Софийския университет (2019 г.)., с дисертация на тема: „Факт и фикция в мемоарния разказ след 1990 г.“.

Нейни произведения са отличени с награди на литературните конкурси: за къс разказ „Рашко Сугарев” (2012 г.), за поезия „Веселин Ханчев” (2012 г.) и „Димитър Бояджиев” (2013 г.). През 2012 г. е стипендиант на Фондация „Елизабет Костова" в Созополския семинар по творческо писане.

Дебютният ѝ сборник разкази „Малка, мръсна и тъжна” (ИК „Рива”) излиза през октомври 2014 г. За него печели I-ва награда на Националния конкурс за дебютна литература „Южна пролет“, Хасково (2015 г.). Книгата е сред номинираните за годишната литературна награда „Ваня Константинова – 2016“. Втората ѝ книга и първа поетична, „Бог в очакване на дилъра“ („Ерго“, 2018 г.) е номинирана за Наградата за нова българска поезия „Николай Кънчев 2018“. Третата ѝ книга с разкази „Ресто“ получава III-та награда на Националния литературен конкурс за наградата „Йордан Радичков“, в гр. Берковица.

Bistra Velichkova was born in 1986 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She obtained her BA degree in Journalism from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgaria (2009) and received a joint MSc degree in European Studies from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, and the Westfälische Wilhelms-University of Münster, Germany (2011). She obtained her PhD degree in Journalism and Media Story Telling from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (2019). The topic of her dissertation is: “Fact and Fiction in Тhe Мemoir Narrative After 1990 in Bulgaria”

She has won prizes in several literary contests: Short story competition Rashko Sugarev (2012), the poetic contests Veselin Hanchev (2012) and Dimitar Boiadjiev (2013). In May 2012, she became a recipient of a fellowship from the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation to participate in the fifth annual Sozopol Fiction Seminar.

Her works – short stories and poems – have appeared in the literary newspapers: Literaturen Vestnik, Starshel, Trud; in the magazines: Granta, LIK, Stranica, Vagabond, Morè and in the online magazines: LiterNet, Crosspoint, Dictum. Bistra's first book – collection of short stories “Young, Dirty and Sad” was published in October 2014 by Riva Publishers. It won First place in Southern Spring National Contest for Debut Literature, in Haskovo (2015). The book was among the nominated works for the annual literary award „Vanya Konstantinova“ (2016). Her second book, and first poetry book, God’s Waiting for the Drug Dealer (Ergo, 2018) was nominated for the „Nikolay Kantchev Award 2018“ for New Bulgarian Poetry.
